I have a 1953 Philco that I watch most every day and it has a great picture and good clear sound except when there is a high contrast image. Is there anything I can do to minimize the buzz?

I've had this problem too, some sets have a "Buzz" control inside but i don't know if that Philco does.
Turning the Contrast down some may help.

I have a 53 Philco too.

No buzz control on this one. The picture tube tests poor but the picture is pretty good and the contrast and brightness are up near the top of their ranges. I will try turning the contrast down some.

You can try the AGC also. What happens is the set gets
say a weak video amp & the pix is washed out. Turn up
the AGC & it looks OK but is on the edge of IF overload.
Try unhooking one wire from your source so you get a snowy
pix & see if it still does it.
the audio detector/quad coil can also get rid of it sometimes
but that is a LAST resort. They are old & dry & break up easily.
