Are certain screen sizes worth more to collectors? Does it matter what size a screen is other than how much space it'll take up. I always thought size mattered and bigger was usually better. I have seen quite an interest when it comes to 9" and 13". I myself like 19" and in consoles, 27". 25" in the older floor sets. I have to admit, size USUALLY doesn't affect me when i stop for a roadside pickup but my collection has overflowed to the storage building because of numerous 25"-27" sets.

But anything that says "Made in USA" is definitely collectible. If its a well built off shore set (Sony) I'll pick it up. I generally rock them around to see if I hear glass tinkling (broken CRT) first.

Yes, unusual and or rare is always a plus. I always check crts out of fear because i know how some people like to break things. With me, the older, the better. My cutoff date is usually 1989 but i've picked up 90, 91, 92, 93. I have a 2004 projection with crts capable of 1080i, a 2008 sansui which we just used for the Wii and my 2001 zenith console only because it was brand new with original remote. I have a 2002 i believe, Sony Wega 27. I prefer 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's sets. Especially 19" and consoles. I wish i could find more 70's sets. not many around.

Well, YES, I think it does, to a certain extent. I have a PRETTY decent collection of the "Teeny-Tiny" 1.5" CRT sets from the 70s & 80s. Even have the 1969 Panasonic 1.5" "Mica-1", & their 1984-85 1.5" COLOR CRT set. You can get a nice collection of those, & the whole shebang will barely take up ANY space at all. Kinda funny, though... My 1946 RCA 621 T/S is sitting very close to a Sony 5-303 set. The CRTs are VERY close in size, but the CABINETS are like an "Order of Magnitude" different in size.

I like mine to be big enough to be practical for everyday use, so I go for 19-25V sets. Chances are anything in a bigger screen size would be too new for me.

I imagine size plays a role, with questions such as the following:

How am I going to lift that sonofabitch?
How am I going to fit that sonofabitch into my car?
Can I borrow a pickup truck to haul that sonofabitch back to my house?
Can I put that sonofabitch in the truck bed without throwing my back out?
How am I going to get that sonofabitch into my house?

Also as Jon A. Put it, If it's going to be shown off so to speak, you can explain
a room with a modern tv and a few smaller collectibles on a shelf, but it's
hard to explain a wall of floor models in yer living room..... 2 maybe....

My office is up a spiral stair case, when we looked at the house there was a
25" floor model tv up there.... I would have loved to see how they got it
down.... I can't bring anything like that up there by myself..... I mean I could
but....... For now I just got 19" & smaller modern plastic cabinet sets up there...

In the future I'll take a 50's small screen metal cabinet sets up there for winter
use..... But back in the storage room for humid summers...

Ideally I would have a separate room to store TVs I'm not using and rotate them as daily watchers.

I find so few that I like and I don't collect RCA, so I'm slow to run out of space.

Due to space constraints, I strictly collect smaller sets.

I'm known for my large collection of 5" Sony Trinitron sets (I have 11. I have a copy of each model as well)

However I do have other larger more modern sets. I have a 36" Wega Sony I use for old games and LaserDisc movies I trash picked because it looked so nice and had the original remote taped to the top, it's even super low hours. I have 14" Sony PVM I use for retro video games in RGB.

I also have a 13" Sony Trinitron set I have owned since it was given to be as a child in 1991. It still works. I'm holding on to a 12" Sony set from 1975 that works, and I don't have the heart to throw it out.

My rule is: Nothing over 20". I can move 20" sets around and I can store them in my storage unit.

Traditionally, smaller was more important in the hobby. 20, 25 years ago, about the only sets getting any respect were 10" or smaller b/w & 15" color. The hobby has come a long way in recent years, though.

Personally, I have a few 23v color sets and that's about as big as I want to go. At some point a collection gets big enough that you have to make choices. "Would I rather use this space to house one big color combo from the 70s, or should I fill it with a pair of 21" roundies?"

Yep.... I did one ALMOST as bad.. I got in my Rohde & Schwarz EK-07 & picked it up all by my lonesome. ALL 152 lbs of Cherman wunderbar radio. I saw Lightnins, Moons, stars, planets. This was about 20 yrs ago-BEFORE my stroke, boogering my knee up, other stuff. And I wasn't damn near 60, either. I USED to be Strong like Bull, before the stroke. Now, I just Shoot the Bull..

My dolly has come in handy for consoles. One time I hauled one home over 4 1/2 miles, or 7.69 kilometers to me (thanks MapQuest). I would do it again if I wanted the set enough. If I'm lucky the person selling/giving them away can deliver if I'm not close enough to get it myself. For the latest one I hired a truck.

Yup, and as much as I love 7" electrostats, they suck to watch too.

Anything from 12" up is good, my ideal watcher size is 21". Of course, there are a bazillon 21" B/W sets out there.....

Well, there's usually ONE good thing w/the Teeny-Tinies-They typically HAVEN'T ever been watched too much. I guess my little '84 CT-101 Panasonic color set MIGHT have 10 hours total on it. It DOES have a remarkable picture, but its just REALLY too small. The "Type" that infests TV nowadays across the bottom part of the picture is all but unreadable on it.

Just a general observation - I think parts availability is a factor for me. No sense in getting that Predicta, CT-100, KV-1710 or Safari with a bad CRT. Likewise, I'd pick up a small screen Sony only with a good stock of genuine 2SC867s and 2SC1034s, just to be sure. Jerome in Paris has already faced the '2SC1034 need..

I've had feelers out for a CRT for a Zenith Porthole for months, and nothing has come up. It'll be out the door soon if nothing comes up - it's a beast combo, never powered up, just waiting for a CRT, so yes to the question, at least for me.

The ubiquitous 12UP4/12UP4A. Mine has grid leakage, two different testers.
