This is a very weird odd looking vertical RCA Victor console TV.

Saw it at a flea market today.

Didn't get it, my father would kill me if I did, and it has cataracts.

I would guess a CTC -21 or CTC-30. BOTH of them had SS audio. And that set sould also have a decent SS stereo, likely an RS-238 amp with sealed 3-way 15" speakers.

Well look at the brighter side. You can put 3
nice 25" sets in its place. I wont tell the story
about one of these self distructing on the dolly again
but I was not unhappy. I always hated those skyscrapers....

Just as ugly as I pictured when you told that story.

I didn't know RCA made these abominations. I've seen an old family photo of my mother at her aunt's(my great aunt) house. It was Christmas of 1970, and hers was an absolutely horrendous Magnavox. I've never heard them called "skyscrapers". I'll be sure to use that one in the future.

I say strip the skyscrapers of useful parts and turn them into towering infernos.

A rarely seen control panel; I guess the height could make the tv chassis a little easier to work on.

So comparatively few of them exist that ugliness of most aside I'd still save one if I found one just to ensure an example continues to exist.

Somebody has to. Another thing that puts me off about them is poor quality. Who knows though; I'm very reluctant to junk anything pre-80s that comes into my possession.

I saw a Magnavox version of this unit at a local flea market recently, it was completely gutted except for the record player, so I'm not sure why they gutted the stereo receiver out of the unit (the TV I could understand) but the stereo? :scratch2:

From the looks of the one you spotted it looks to be possibly a remote control model (the TV.)

I've seen a gutted one too. Sometimes the TV and stereo system share speakers and or power supply and a service tech would be needed to separate the Siamese twins non-fatally....Most gut jobs were done by 'joe owner' so if removing one part killed the other then it all got gutted. Some folks probably got a new combo and gutted the whole cabinet stereo be damned to have more room for books, etc.
