Where is there a source to get 18-22 gauge wire that is striped like red wire with a yellow strip, and all the other variations that's in our vintage TV sets?

If you only need short lengths find a junk tube type Zenith
& cut out what you need. The wire is braided & tinned then
a rubber jacket. On top of that is cloth that comes in all
solid colors & striped colors. IMHO its the best wire used in
ANY consumer electronics. I would love to know who made
it & how they could afford to use it. Up til the end we kept a
box of clippings for jumpers etc at the shop. For longer wire
the wire from convergence clovers can be several feet &
color coded often.

Junk and tube type Zenith don't belong in the same paragraph let alone sentence IMHO. If there is enough left to salvage wire from, then there is probably enough to be worth restoring...

A less cruel set to get wire from would be an 80's console TV. Many of those attached the controls to the PCB with 1-4' long harnesses that are often fairly decent for tube work. Some time ago I took such a harness from a Sylvania and built an audio amp with a tube count comparable to a TV with it.

Of course you are correct, I was thinking of the olden days when
you could get a warehouse of TV's for free. But the great Zenith wire
ended when the System 3 chassis came out with all that purple
crap. Still good wire but not the all out wire used before.

So I end this with the humblest of apologies and urge all NOT
to chop up any old Zeniths for hook-up wire, no matter how
beat they are.

I agree.. I'm not going to junk another tube set to strip the wires.. Besides I don't have any junk chassis lying around.. Its just easier to have a spool of each incase I need to extend some wires or need to replace any bad wires..

I gave them a call, and when I mentioned about restoring a TV set, he said we only sell wires for automobiles, and the wire is not meant for anything above 50volt DC... The guy was hesitant to sell me the wires.. Also he only sells them in copper stranded.. I would rather solid..

I can't find no other source except the first link I gave you ( riwire.com ) I never mentioned to them it was for vintage radio or tv, and they never questioned it.
