What kind of capacitors are these which go across the AC inputs? According to the schematics they're .05 mfd so should I replace them with film capacitors? Or leave them? Since it seems to be a special capacitor setup I'm curious if there is a special way people like to replace them (sort of like the special procedure for replacing electrolytics in a can).

This is on my 1946 Westinghouse H-110B radio, FWIW.

Replace it with an AC across-the-line rated capacitor. X1/y2 type, available at Mouser, Digi-key and others. Just radios also has them. Personally, I get them from junked PC power supplies, and they're rated at 275v, plenty of headroom.

Oh, cool. I wonder why I haven't noticed them on other devices before. I've got a PC power supply I was scavenging for parts for something else so I'll check that, otherwise I'll include it in my just radios order. Thanks!
