Scanning CL for "whatever jumps out at me"... Saw this ad over a week ago, but never reviewed the pictures until this morning. Picture #8 caught my eye.

By late this afternoon, the hardware-store-dirty but complete and unmolested 1959 Princess (or Debutante?) was in my house, waiting for a sponge bath. They said it worked when they stopped using it. Wonder how long ago that was... It will sit untested until well into winter, when I have time to read up a little bit.

Nice score. Don't forget they have a low voltage CRT filament if you get the CRT tester on it.

Hope you grabbed that metal can of Brasso next to it, the new stuff in plastic is no good.

Brasso was gone -- or at least, not in that spot any more. Have a few old cans still around from various garage/shop cleanouts, so I'm good for awhile.
Flitz is a pretty good polish -- as is Simichrome.

I looked at the test gear too, but all the functions/ranges I've already got covered on other gear. Gear I don't have to fix before using. I'm trying to limit projects, but a Predicta has always been high on the list, even if it is an entry-level one.

I didn't remember reading anywhere that they weigh a ton. Especially on top of a ladder.

Yeah, and it's all on the top too, very unwieldy.

the 17" models have a power transformer so they probably weigh as much as the 21" Holiday which doesn't.

The tombstone to the right of the TV? It wasn't an actual radio. No guts, controls, or cords. Might have been an external speaker, but it had a couple 1/8" jacks grafted to the front, right at the peak. They were attached to a bit of aluminum angle, and screwed to the face of the case with drywall screws. Wires went inside thru two other holes in the face.

Remember, it's a hardware store.

I'm not sure it was authentically old... but still.
