I picked one of these up at a flea and it needs a remote to get in to the brightness/contrast/etc. to adjust. Does anyone know what remote will do the trick? Power/channel/volume only on the front panel.

According to what I've found on the web this model has regular knob controls on the lower left side of the set to adjust the picture, the remote is an RM-759 available on eBay but it's very basic.

I can confirm that the remote only has display, power, ch, volume. Watch the switching transistors on the main board that drive the power on relay, they can short and make the tv "instant on" by leaving the set powered on with no pix.

I have an appointment for better bi-focals. There they were on the one side I did not look at. It now looks great in my obsolete tape format dubbing center. $7 well spent and I don't need the remote.

If you do want a remote control anyway, likely any Sony TV one will probably work for those basic functions. I can send you one to try if you want one, Dave, let me know.

Chris, I do have a remote that does the basic functions this was built for. As I do not need a remote for what I am doing, please pass it along to a better user. Thanks for the thought and offer. DA

I can confirm that any Sony remote from 1981 to present, will work all the functions of the KV-8AD10. The original remote is am RM-759, and it has only Ch+/-, Vol +/-, power, mute, and sleep. Not even 0-9 keys...

About 10 years ago, I picked up a Sony 13TR24, dated 1991.
When I first got it, the picture was washed out, very little color and brightness and no external color, brightness etc. It looked like the CRT was really sick.
It turned out that all the settings were on the remote. I tried a universal remote, but it wouldn't access any settings. The Sony remote has two buttons for picture, plus and minus. You can't even change the channel scan from antenna to cable. There's two separate buttons for that function.
Once I got the proper remote and made the adjustments, the picture turned out really great. :thmbsp:

Aside from the remote issue this set is a spectacular little guy. I have not seen many of these around. The pic is a cell phone pic of the monitor showing a mid 70's quad 2" commercial I directed copied to 3/4" in the late 70's and copied to my 15 year old Mac Pismo from my collection via Final Cut Pro 1.25. Someday I will start a thread on the indestructible Sony BVW-950 3/4" deck. I have been transferring all my old VHS and 3/4" to Mac and this deck is saving the day. Tapes that have been baked and frozen in the attic are playing and the little Sony is happy to show them...without the proper remote. Thanks for all of your help.
