A curious looking little Capehart/ Faernsworth late 40's TV is on ebay right now. The set is in rough shape. I wrote the seller that he'd be lucky to get $50 to $150 max for a set in that condition.

IIRC the last one on ebay (also rough) sold for around $500. From what I can see, it doesn't look that bad - just a little rusty. I'd want to see more of that cabinet.

It's a fairly scarce early post-war TV, but nothing very impressive aesthetically. If you catch it right and a couple of serious buyers are looking for one, I believe this one can approach the $500 area again, otherwise, with all the work it needs, I think around the $350 area is more realistic.
Seems the seller thinks he has a pre-war there! He'll have it for sale for a LONG time.

If the front label said Farnsworth versus Capehart it would be worth $700-$800. With the Capehart name probably $400-$500. They seem easier to find now then they did 3-5 years ago.

Do you really feel this would fetch $400-$500? I agree that the "Farnsworth" labeling makes all the difference in the world.

I would say if the chassis was clean and the reversed painted glass was good it could fetch up to $500, but that not being the case I highly doubt it. At a glance it looks decent, but upon closer inspection you can see it was stored in extremely damp conditions that effected the entire set.

I initially didn't see the chassis was so rough looking. I still think it is rare and would be in the $300-$400. I own the Farnsworth version of this set (in excellent condition) so maybe I'm trying to justify what I spent a couple years ago for mine.

I have the floor model version thats very clean that I want to sell that has a good 10FP4.

OMG!:no: There is a starting bid of $4,950 on this set! Sounds like shenanigans to me! In the condition that thing is in and just due to the name I would give him maybe $100 with a tested crt. It's not in terrible condition by any means. Just a little rust mainly. That's over $200 a tube!!!

I wouldn't pay more than $100.00 ( if that) the chassis is too rusty. Walter Beers has a 40's Andrea with a rusty chassis that he is thinking of selling, and the Andrea is in wayyyyyyy better shape, and more rare than a Capehart IMHO.
