Just Saturday I went to a church rummage sale (late before closing) and under the electronics table was an absolute mint Zenith 4B25 chassis set (black plastic cabinet w/wood grain with intact rabbit ears) with no one looking at it. I got there late and they handed out large grocery bags that all you could put in it for $5. Still lots of bargains there. Just talking with the guy there said the TV goes with a bag so it was for free. I like that word but it does nothing for my space requirements. These were great sets and I remember helping Gray's TV store sell these at Christmas in 1971. (Or was it 1972?) Later on when I was selling used TV's I rarely came across these and have seen less than 4 of these in the last 30 years. Now I have two of them. Years ago they never seemed to come up for sale used. After the sale is over most churches call KARM thrifts stores to pick up what was not sold. Yes, it would have gone in the trash and I cannot let that happen. It had a $5 price tag on it and no one even looked at it the whole day. It does work.

As TV collectors though, we have to be careful of what we grab. I can't tell you how many sets have gone through my hands as I go through the process of acquisition, getting buried in, and getting rid of.....

Every time I see a set that I want to save for absolutely no reason other than I don't want to see it junked, I remember in a Sams repair book that I saw that there were over 400 MILLION tube televisions made before the advent of solid state. Kinda keeps me in check :)

The 4B25C19 was probably from 1971. I had one when I moved away to tech school in 1981 and it was a fantastic performer. we sold it for $150 or something when money got tight and rent was due.

A few years ago, I got a 19DC11, similar to 4B25 but 1973 model and soon after, a 19DC12 showed up.
I gave that one to a fellow collector. They do tend to multiply but are among Zenith's best offerings in the early 70s and the tubes last and last.

If I saw one for $5 Id get it, but Id also pass on many other sets of that era, especially GE's
