A collector friend sent me an e-mail asking if I wanted a bunch of old Video Recorders, not VHS or Beta but U-Matic and other dead formats, and most interesting, a Quasar VR1000 Great Time Machine.

As luck would have it the Quasar is in very good cosmetic condition, having been stored in a plastic bag, the JVC's are in decent shape too, the others are in various states, mostly dirty.

There are also two JVC CR-6000, one JVC CR-6060u, a Sony AV-3650, Sony AV-3400, Sony CV-2000 and a Sanyo VTC-7100.

I'm mostly interested in the Quasar and maybe one of the JVC's, I will probably want to give away the others if there's any interest.

Will post some pictures soon, VCR is somewhat misleading since the Sony's are Reel to Reel.

From what I briefly read the Sony CV-2000 is the first home VCR, Bob Crane no doubt had one. :D
It has no cabinet so it probably was in a console or rack originally, it's missing the cover over the heads and guides.

The others are a Sony AV-3400 and a JVC CR-6000U, a U-Matic machine I think.

Im sure it would be a mint to get one shipped my way :D

I hadn't considered that there might be reel-to-reel units, I'm only interested in self-contained tape formats.

Years ago, i ended up with a U-matic tape and have NO CLUE whats on it...

Sony AV-3650, this one's in nice shape, powers up, the reels and heads run but the capstan doesn't move, probably a bad belt.

Eric, was there a tape on the unit when you tested it? Just wondering if the capstan is controlled by a switch that shuts down at the end of the tape?

KV-1926R, It was a Delco r-1128 wood radio, the speaker came loose and banged around in transit, 2 tubes and a 8" field coil speaker were lost.. Still looking for a speaker or someone who can re-do one :)

That is the case with my Sony AV-5000A. There is a switch attached to some thick wire that pushes against the tape if the tape is not there the wire will move out and turn the motor switch off.

the person I got them from just offered another one, an interesting one, this time it's a 1" IVC 700 Color recorder from 1972, also a box of new tape reels for it, old tape with content would be better but who's complaining.

Like this I guess, I may pick it up Monday.

Also offered is a Cartrivision tape, don't know if it's a blank or pre recorded.

When I was in middle school (mid-80s) the teacher in charge of A-V had some pretty cool stuff tucked away, including one of those Sony open reel video decks, in working order. (he showed us a video with it one day) I've often wondered what became of that machine, and the table model Chromacolor he had it connected to.
