Not sure if this is the right place to ask but does anyone know of a color picture tube substitute guide or link?

I have a LXI tv with a fairly good picture tube except it is darker than normal probably due to wear and when the brightness is turned up, the picture washes out. Plus someone scratched the front somehow right in the middle of the view area

The LXI tv tube number is: A68ACTOOX

If at all possible, I would like to use a good Fisher tv picture tube with the number A68ACC35L.

I have visually compared the two and the connections are identical along with the internal connections but operating voltages may be different.

Any help is very appreciated!

we substituted almost every crt imaginable back in our shop days.documented every swap and found that if the connections were the same,it would work.your swap is a relatively common one.

You are probably OK. Since every LXI I saw was a Sanyo
& Fisher is also Sanyo made that adds to it.

If you havent check the G-2 & the 200V that runs the
3 video outputs, they can fool you into assuming CRT.

The three most common problems you need to watch for are the curvature of the screen (some are more curved than others). The mounting brackets can be in different locations (they might not reach the mounting points, or there might be a gap between the CRT and bezel). The electron guns might not be compatible with the yoke which will make it impossible to converge.

I replaced one of the infamous Zenith CRT's with one from a NAP set. The set was OK for the garage, but wasn't salable. There was a gap between the mask and the CRT face, that was at least 3/4" wide. :thumbsdn:

Thank you all. The Fisher and LXI tubes are identical as far as I can tell. They are both flat with no curvature.

I saw the Fisher before the horizontal output transistor shorted and the flyback smoked and all I can say is the Fisher tube (if it is indeed Sanyo) had a bright, sharp, and very enjoyable picture altogether.

It'll be about a month or so before I can get to it, but I do want to get it replaced as soon as possible. Again, thank you all!

I'm pretty sure that A68ACT00X is a Zenith-sourced CRT and it's one of those that was failure-prone (especially the ones made from the early '90's on up). How old is your set and is there an EIA# on the CRT label?

Those Zenith CRT's can check GOOD on a CRT tester; but, can still be faulty. I was getting Zenith TV's with that tube by the truckload from the local Zenith dealer when they'd junk them for having a bad CRT. From what I remember, that was the only tube that would physically fit in the cabinet and look right. On one or two sets, I was able to rig up a tube that would electrically work; but, the physical mounting was off. On other TV's, I installed a mid-to-late '80's version of that tube (the ones from the '80's were a little better).

The tv still works pretty darn good but like I said, the picture is dark and washes out when the brightness and contrast is turned up. Plus the front scratches are somewhat of a distraction.

I have no idea how it could have gotton scratched the way it did but looking at it up close and with a magnifying glass, someone managed to gouge 3 scratches in the glass about the size of a small band aid. Probably something fell against it or was laid on its face roughly sometime in the past. :dunno:

Update:

I replaced the LXI picture tube with the Fisher picture tube and I have to say that I am really impressed at how good it really works. Bolt patterns were the same and so was the yoke wiring so it was just a matter of a simple switch.
