I noticed on my RCA Console Tv that if you are watching something with a white background that is just right you can see like a shadow or a ghost around the object. I think also maybe during the Chiefs game today it had the same shadow and or ghost around the red jersey. This is also noticeable around certain lettering in broadcasts.

It's not enough of a problem to bother me yet. I would just like to know what may or may not be causing this.

Also,when I first turn my set on the white has a green cast to it but goes away in less than a half of minute or so. Is this just the way it comes on while it is turning on and the picture tube is heating up? There is no hint of green in the white broadcasts. Also, the B&W is still good as it can be. This was alll adjusted this summer.


What can be done for darn Christmas lights interferring with certain stations through the converter box(es)? It seems like it only bothers on low signal station the most.

In regards to the first and third problems: I noticed a while back that you were trying to get that flat-ribbon (for the lack of a better term) 300-ohm signal cable; perhaps this could be picking up interference more easily than your standard 75-ohm coaxial cable?

The change with warm up almost has to be the CRT.
The ghost also probably is. When CRT's start getting weak they
"shoot flames" to the right of high brightness & contrast
scenes. Sometimes they are white or the color of the weak gun (s).
Turning down the brite & contrast usually improves it.
Also if the adjustments were done by eye not "by the book"
that may be part of it. Other than that not much else
will do it. BTW whats the chassis number ??
As far as xmas lights go I dont know. As KV said you want to
avoid 300 ohm, it can pick up garbage. Most sets have a coax
input, use that & avoid any matching doo-dads.

For the interference issue I have a 75 ohm cable that I can use as well instead of the 300 ohm. The problem exists with both cable (wires). As for the blooming of the white or sometimes red we notice this a little bit on our kitchen tv sometimes too. The kitchen tv is a 2001 Curtis Mathes. This problem here that I describe seemed to come about with the digital tv transition. I wonder if it would have something to do with the fact that they are sending a digital signal but you have to convert it to analog to watch it on your older sets? I don't think it does it when watching VCR tapes.

Let us know if turning down the contrast fixes your "ghost" - or post a picture.

Sometimes when the crt is going low,you can forestall the day you have to blast it by connecting the rgb output stages to a higher voltage also assuming the crt heater is being fed from the line output stage check to see if it is grounded if so cut the print,whatever,connect a 220k high voltage resistor to the nearest cathode to the heater.
