Look at the price this VHS movie went for!

I mean dont get me wrong,I LOVE VHS but I dont think i would pay THAT MUCH for one!!

Some VHS is worth a lot because it's the only way to see certain movies, particularly oddball horror films. If that film comes out on DVD in a week the value of that tape will drop to $1.00 immediately but there are a lot of films that may never get a DVD release.

Same reason why some LaserDiscs still command big bucks...Some movies don't make it to newer formats quick enough (or seemingly ever) so the price of the old format stuff goes up.

Plain old VHS ain't bad but if I was stuck getting a video on an old format I'd prefer LaserDisc, S-VHS, W-VHS, D-VHS, SuperBetamax or ED Betamax to sub-NTSC resolution VHS(Though LD and S-VHS are the only formats I presently have players for).

The Concorde... Airport '79 was never released as a stand-alone DVD, so I'm now keeping an eye out for the VHS.

My guess is they spent that much money as a business investment and will soon be selling bootleg DVD's on ebay.

I paid a little over $100 for a collection of all star trek episodes on VHS :) (I love the original star trek)

Yeah, but that only works until somebody rips one of the bootleg DVDs and uploads it to one of the torrent sites....:D

sold my yellow submarine vhs when it was out of print on ebay , it went for $80 , later on the dvd came out , something like that you know will be released but some people can't wait

I could have sold my Laser Disc of Paul McCartney's Rockshow for $100 or more when he went on tour a few years ago, but I kept it anyway.

Airport '79 occasionally runs on cable movie channels. I believe it might even be broadcast in HD (I don't recall if I last watched it in HD or not). Any digital cable source is going to look better than a VHS copy.

if your talking a hi def digital cable source I agree but if your talking standard digital cable like I have with Verizon or had with cablevision that's not true , we get my favorite channls in standard digital , me tv , antenna tv and tcm ( tcm is available in hi def on cablevision but not on Verizon ) so heres what I saw , it happened one night was on tcm and I saw the beginning and said doesn't my vhs look better ? well I put the tape in and matched it to the segment it was at on tcm , I could see individual hairs on the tape , the lines in the suit , details in the faces , it wasn't a remarkable difference but it was enough , the digital version was not showing the detail the vhs could , this is just one of other examples I've done with other movies and tv shows , my point being if the tape can show more detail how much lower is the resolution on the digital ? i could make other comparisons , now i know antenna tv is low resolution over the air , a friend with antenna on the roof showed me and its a side channel of 11 that lacks resolution so theres nothing cable can do about that , don't know if metv has a higher rate , cozi is a higher definition on Verizon even though it might not be a 720 or 1080 feed ( maybe someone knows for sure ) but its much better then the three channels mentioned , you can even see when they are showing something if it is from a recent master or an old one , the old one offers less quality.
metv , tcm , antenna , etc all look better on a vintage set because it can't show the digital hash and noise as well as a hi def tv but when a image on a vintage tv from a dvd shows more clarity then the channels on cable i just mentioned were being ripped off

Rabbitears.info lists 11.1 as 1080i, and 11.2, and 11.3, at 480i.

They look pretty sharp on my older (1985) tv's. As good or better than quality VHS tape.
