It will be a while before this set lives up to it's reputation as the
"TV repairman killer". If finding that a imploded 7JP4 wasn't bad enough,
A further inspection of the chassis revealed a bad power transformer T100.
Careless preparation for shipping was the last indignation, How can anybody
ship a set without checking to see if the chassis was at least bolted down?
If any thing I was surprised to find no cosmetic damage even the safety
glass and printed logo was unharmed. I have a good 7JP4 that needs a base
and I now have a good base with a Philco logo that needs a CRT. As for the
power transformer well that may be rather difficult.

I likey the looks of the Philco 48-700.
1948 era when some TVs styling still looked somewhat like Radios.

The 48-700 is a completely different chassis that the later 702 models with the crummy HV transformers. I believe it uses a high voltage transformer that runs directly off the AC power like the pre war sets do as David referred to, a deadly situation because of the high current involved.

Was the CRT damaged in shipping? I believe it's supposed to have a 7GP4 instead of the 7JP4 but I hear they can be used as a sub.

Top and bottom cover bells and they'll make new one from scratch

Yup, that would be more than enough, considering that 220/240 line voltage will do it.

A good base with the Philco logo is all what is left of the original picture tube, It will replace the broken base on the replacement tube. 7GP4 or 7JP4 numbers are shown in the service manual.

Find, rewind or put inside a new supply will be options for the power transformer.
