G'day all, one thing that I learned this week in amongst lots of other things :D is that when it comes to Ham Radio antennas, the simple inverted V dipole is a fine antenna.

Although I love full wave loop antennas, they have the real disadvantage the they cannot match the 'effective height' advantage of a simple inverted V dipole. Less wire, but ultimately better performance. It is just 'one of those things'. Regards, Felix (vk4fuq) aka catman.

The antenna that I use is a G5RV that is only about 12 feet up at the feed point and 10 feet at the ends. From my station in West Tennessee I have worked stations from Mexico City, and Canada just north of Seattle Washington. Not bad for a couple pieces of wire and 100 Watts.
