I have to replace the pot in the picture and it has three legs inserted into the terminal strip. I know there are two tabs that have to be positioned, but are these pots just inserted into the terminal strip, inserted into solder filled posts or inserted into the posts and the ends stick out and get soldered?

I have only a 35W iron, so if it's solder filled, I'm out of luck. If it's just the tips, I have a 45W with a sucker head that should do the trick.

You will need to unsolder those 3 pins, Yes. solder filled

Cut off the 1, 2 or 3 terminals close to the pot & remove pot. Install new one, use the old steaks for terminals, solder, trim as needed.
BTW they are probably wire wound pots. If the body is soldered on
anywhere you must do that. That is assuming an EXACT replacement.....

I did it just a tad differently. Cut the terminals close to the pot, then heat the stake until the rest of the pot terminal comes out. Use needle nose pliers to hold on to the terminal.

Cut off the 1, 2 or 3 terminals close to the pot & remove pot. Install new one, use the old steaks for terminals, solder, trim as needed.
BTW they are probably wire wound pots. If the body is soldered on
anywhere you must do that. That is assuming an EXACT replacement.....

Yes, it's the R605 (63-7073). It is wire wound and you can hear the wire broke near the full CCW position and the value jumps all over the place in that are. I don't see the body soldered at all. Just these two little ears that slip through the convergence board and get a little bend to hold in place.

My brother has a large '40 iron that is wide and hot enough to heat all three posts at the same time. That should help with the removal. He then has three clip on heat sinks for the new pot's legs and will heat the posts and press new one in place.

Easiest to cut out & remove pins one at a time. Then trim the new
ones so you dont have to drive them so deep........

I used to remove a lot of these pots on Zenith TVs, and the way I did it was to take a soldering gun, and get the tip between 2 of the lugs and get them real hot, then immediately heat up the 3rd lug and wiggle the pot out of there. Sometimes it took a lot of heating up lugs back and forth until I was able to work the pot out of there. After the pot was removed I would heat one lug up at a time up again, taking a solder sucker to remove the remaining solder so I could install the new one.
