View Full Version : Sylvania Halolight TV near Des Moines IA
walterbeers 07-22-2013, 03:55 PM I am hoping to get this set but have won't have a chance to drive to Des Moines, until some Sunday in August. Hoping to go there and visit Adventureland with my 2 sons, and pick up the TV at the same time. Link to Craigslist listing. http://desmoines.craigslist.org/atq/3909644838.html
Don't know if it will be worth the $150 but used we to have a Sylvania Halolight that I watched when I was a kid. My parents got one somewhat similar to that in 1955 and kept it for at least 20 years, and then sold it on a garage sale for $25. Darned wish I had kept it.
technicolor 07-22-2013, 04:03 PM if u want that set, U might want to delete that link and quick.
It's been mentioned by others, this has been an issue in the past, where people post sets, and then get upset when a fellow vker bags it.
IMHO, u post a set u want, don't be surprised if it get's bagged
Boobtubeman 07-22-2013, 04:45 PM Yeah there was a tv i had an understanding with the seller on mysteriously dissapear here once :D

U may want to rethink that dibbs thing there. To many folks, myself included, it means nothing.
Jon A. 07-22-2013, 05:17 PM Dibbs! Now I just have to invent the Starfleet transporter and I'll be on my way.
ggregg 07-22-2013, 09:36 PM Here is a nicer one for even more money, just a little further up the road in Rochester, MN.

Yep, I've advised people in the past that they better get the set first, then post about it, saves a lot of hard feelings that way.
As of now there are 9 members and 39 guests on this Site, any one of which might live closer to that set than you do.
Boobtubeman 07-22-2013, 09:48 PM Yeah sadly i agree, Even if you have an understanding with the seller, theres always a leach lurking in the shadow. Ah, society, how we've evolved hehehe :D

Even in it's most common form of the second grade playground, i never understood or respected that.
With the exception of the op here, who i think maybe just wasn't thinking, let's examine what calling dibbs means.
"i saw this set, and cause i',s so damn special stay away from it and let me buy it. Cause i said so."
"i saw it first, it's mine."
Then of course the more forgiveable "here's a set i'm thinking of buying"
Calling dibbs, or i saw it first, is not only childish, it's incredibly foolish, immature and arrogant. Strangers on a message board have no obligation to stay away from any potential sales, just because u issue some statement.
If u posted a nice set that got sold out from under neath you, well shame on you. 63 roundies for example, are not rolls of tp at costo. They are rare antiques. The point is, no one here owes u anything. If a vker beats u by 1 day or one hour to a set, he owes u nothing.
and one other thing. If u want to keep a jerk like me away from your potential buy, don't post a damn thing. Even a small bit of info, is enough for me sometimes to locate a set.
so i'll issue my own statement. Anybody posts a set here, game on. With the exception of a certain chassis made by zenith for my good buddy Ron, any set is fair game. I will buy a set down the street from u and laugh while i do it. I will strike without warning.
Eric H 07-22-2013, 10:30 PM technicolor you seem to have a hostile streak that comes out a little too often.
I just closed the tread about the broken GE set and now this one looks like it's headed down the drain.
It's pretty obvious the "Dibbs" comments were made in jest so no need to take anyone to task for it.
technicolor 07-22-2013, 10:36 PM JUst rendering my thoughts to paper, nothing more nothing less.
And the dibbs comment pertains to past events, certainly not a joke made in this thread.

I understand that but could you possibly render them a little less abrasively? :scratch2:

I figured it might be but still it was a little harsh.
You speak your mind and that's okay but maybe with a little less acid?

I will try to play nice. How about a "minefield" section that u only see when u become a member. perhaps with more lax rules and political discussions?

Well Audiokarma does have a Back Alley Pub for more risque stuff but still no Politics, that topic (and religion) is just too toxic.
politicalchat.org is just for discussing politics and is owned by the same person as AK/VK.

Good thing that I usually go after the cheap stuff that most don't want. :D

The closest i came to having a competitor, was the night i was driving home a set, somebody posted the cl ad here.
Jon A. 07-23-2013, 01:38 AM The 1987 Trinitron that touched off my obsession was posted twice, for free, before I decided to go pick it up. I thought that it would make a nice change from my SPC 2005 Sanyo. That was the 20th of March. Now, I'm on my way to being buried in TV stuff.
Boobtubeman 07-23-2013, 11:21 PM Other than my avatar, im good to go :) May even need to lose a couple.. :D

edison64 07-24-2013, 11:44 AM The old saying goes. "Money talks and bullsh** walks". I have been burned too many times by people calling and saying they will show up and never do. in the meantime I've passed several others who have gladly paid the money so unless in item is paid for its up for grabs and tell whoever shows with the cash... definitely not the way I used to be but got stung too many times.
walterbeers 08-17-2013, 04:12 PM Well, I learned my lesson! The sets already gone, just when I had the chance to make the trip. Well, that's the way it goes. I'm still looking for a halolight TV. If anyone has one in the Midwest area, near Omaha, e-mail me, on VK

I really like the style on this one!
For $150 it better have a good CRT and Neon.
ggregg 08-18-2013, 12:44 PM It's been listed for quite a while. I'm thinking it $50-$75 would probably take it home. Just a hunch. I drove nearly as far as Omaha to Rochester to pick up one of mine.
