What goodies did you pick up at the Early Television Convention Auction?

I was not able to attend this year but last year I got some nice stuff.

I also didn't bring back a single TV set. :arrow:

But I did get good 7JP4, 10BP4 and lifetime supply of tubes for TV and AA5 IF strips all for $80.

I got a working GE Portacolor and a Zenith 25MC33 roundy with a good CRT and a HV problem.

Someone partially recaped the Zenith in the past, and it has good hum free sound. Every horizontal tube except the HV rect. and HV reg. was either weak(osc. tube), shorted(HOT and damper), or missing(focus rect). With new tubes it don't want to make more than 1KV of HV. It does not do any better with the horizontal plate drive signal from my B&K 1076 so I suspect the damper area is the problem. Wish I had a schematic for this set so I could troubleshoot the horizontal easier.

I also sold everything I brought...It surprisingly paid for everything I bought except for 3$ of LPs :D I'm over joyed that I effectively traded stuff I've lost interest in for stuff I want with a net reduction in physical volume of sets coming back home.

Didn't buy anything. TVs don't fit into an airline carry-on bag :)

After leaving, I wished that I had bid on one item in the silent auction -- a little Conrac/Fleetwood VHF TV tuner. That would have been small enough to smuggle home somehow, and I thought of a good use for it after the fact.

Oh, well -- always more fish in the sea!

I got a Saba german projection tv and a TelRent 10 inch rental tv missing the CRT and coin box for renting. Chuck A the seller of the Saba said he found a german schematic years ago but couldn't read german. He said he could make out the resister and capacitor values but couldn't remember if he changed them since it was so long and too many tvs ago.

The Tele-Rent set is a cute one. My wife almost bid against you on that one.

nice score on the PC and Zenith. I love porta colors these days, they have a very high WAF.

That Saba is an interesting set. I would love to see it in operation. German schematics have a few different conventions but they are usually not too hard to puzzle out. For example, 1,1 means 1.1.

I think I'll use it around the house once I get a decent set of agile modulators on the air.

yea having the built in rabbit ears makes it perfect the a BT modulator. funny how I see commercials touting being able to move a tv from room to room and have it still work, duh... that's the way they started out.

i have the same zenith ,it still needs some work but its the same everything. the sams is packet 757- 4 i just got one for mine ,after i replaced the crt connector and hor. plate cap wire i see it needs a complete recap. job.

Almost the same. Mine has the decorative indents in the wood in different spots, and two faux door pulls on the board below the CRT mask.

I was able to get a shrunken raster and 11KV of HV after replacing several shorted and open caps in the horizontal section. Including at least one shorted orange drop(now I've seen everything)!

No TV's for me, but did get 2 radios a Sony ICF-2001 and a Westinghouse WR-272, which I will probably make into a "Tuesday afternoon" restoration.

I also picked up a portable video setup form the 70's, this was arranged a few months ago and just transported for me, included a Panasonic portable EIAJ recorder, 2 Vidicon cameras a "hip switcher" and a bunch of accessories in a big black case.

Also got a Jackson 648 tube tester.

Yeah that is what I'm guessing. I'm dreading the cateracting procedure that will come after I get the electronics fixed. Last RCA type tube I decated was my first decat procedure and did not end well...Even if I hadn't made the mistake of putting the hot tube in cold water which cracked the face(killing the tube), the mistakes I made that came before that left me with the unpleasant prospect of chipping off the lense.

Once I get around to the decat I hope all the mistakes I made before will prevent me from having any this time around.

iv got one in the kiddy pool right now flooting around in water / dawn dish soap, in the garage . im going to see if dawn will speed up things probley not though, iv tryed alot of different solutions to find something that will break pva down .

I did not go to the Convention but I watched the auction video.
That was indeed an unusual cabinet. There is also a photo of the
purchaser loading it in his car. Can you tell us about it?

It was in a MAG called AMERICAN HOME. This was a special not monthy issue.
It was 200 American Home Interiors but has no index, no copyrite, no year listed anywhere. I have two of them.
Front cover has a large 9" x 7" picture of it and inside on pages 80 and 81 is a article on the interior not the TV but one picture shows the TV working.
This brings up was it real or was the photo touched up?
I made it from a wood tube, can be bought in many sizes, and a congo or bongo drum for the top and a wood bowl in the middle. All my TV and wood working came to a end when my son moved back for one year and I never started back up when he left. Condo only 800 sq ft.

I watched the auction video also and saw some of my old stuff being sold like the RCA 621s. One was real one was a hand made copy that was close but not real. I have also included wood parts for a 3rd which I did not see. A local shop had a large wood table with the correct wood used in the TVs so the parts were cut from that with the wood grain correct direction on one but not both.

Next year I am bringing a 100 foot Cat 5e cable, I am sick of having WiFi connection issues. I was fighting to get the connection to work for the start of the auction, and the connection dropped for several min at the McKoy center during the presentations.

Hey thanks for putting in the effort to video the event.
Be interesting if you could find a "personality" that you could tape
who makes commentary on the items before the auction begins.

I picked up a vintage antenna made for UHF at the flea market that was set up outside the building which looks like about the size of an LP record with a big hole in the center. I hooked it up to my HDTV 50" panasonic, and it is the best indoor antenna I have ever had on the set for off the air digital. The picture doesn't anymore break up and pixilate, and I actually get 3 more channels than my old rabbit ears.

I also got a stromberg carlson roundie B&W, and a B&W 21 inch Philco, off the flea market thing. I just have to find more time to get into them and get them working again. Thanks to whom ever had those sets, and the UHF antique antenna.

I believe the Philco you got was from young Tom Carlson (Electronic Memory) if it was the set next to the semi-trailer outside. Tom & I are both from Wisconsin, he came down with his father, Jerry.

The Stromberg Carlson may have been from Don Patterson of Georgia, if you got it from the same group of white plastic tables where you bought the antenna from me.

I believe one of the younger guys who helps Dave Sisca with the video production bought the Custom made TV Cabinet. He wasn't wearing a badge in the auction pictures so I didn't get his name. Dave would probably have his name.

My scores where small, a Westinghouse WR-272 radio, a Sony IVF-2001 AM/FM/SW radio, a lot of vintage tubes including a Hitachi NuVistor which was NIB. and a video tape production system in a large case form the 70's.
