In the past, we've determined that 5" B&W TV's were made until shortly before the DTV transition, 12" sets were made until at least the mid '90's, and 22" sets were made until circa 1981. So, when did 19" portable B&W's cease to be made available on the "new" market in the USA?

When I was a kid, I would have sworn there were some in the late '80's Sears and JCPenny Christmas catalogs; but, after looking through online editions of some of the older catalogs, I'm not finding any from that time period. I also remember, a long time ago, fixing a Philco-branded 19" set that had, IIRC, Samsung guts in it and I was thinking it was from around '83-'84; but, I could be wrong.

I do know that Zenith offered some 19" sets with digital tuning around '81-'82.

Does anyone have any other information as to when 19" B&W's ended their run?

As a high school student, I got a job in a TV shop in 1987. We were an authorized service center for RCA, GE, Zenith, Goldstar, and Samsung. We took on Magnavox in 1990.

I can't remember ever working on a B&W (under warranty) except for Samsung sets, and these were all 13" or less. We done their warranty work because the local K-Mart sold Samsung (and Goldstar).

I am certain that after 1987 there were no B&W sets available from Zenith as we also sold that line.

The 19" Zenith with digital tuning is the latest one I've seen.

I found reference to a Magnavox 19" set that was allegedly sold into 1985-6. I found a couple of ads confirming that model was being sold in late 1983.

There's an ad on my local CL for a 1983 19" B&W RCA - I'm interested but the guy is asking $50 which I think is too high.
