Today I picked up a Panasonic laserdisk player model number lx-101. I was curious just to ask does this thing play DVD's or VCD's? I only ask be cause on the data sheet it says that it plays cd's mini cd's and compact disks with a video section?

Also if anyone has young Frankenstein on laserdisc I would love to have a copy! It is my favorite modern movie!

The machine was made before the introduction of DVD. It does not play DVD's.

There were many somewhat confusing video disc formats in the 1990s. That machine will not play "Video CD" discs (CD-size discs with one hour of digital video/audio), but it will play "CD-Video" discs (CD-size discs with five minutes of analog video/digital audio, plus 20 minutes of digital audio). CD-Video discs were a short-lived format; maybe a couple of hundred titles were released. Some brands used that name for full-sized Laser Discs, as well. Just to make it even more confusing, it will also play "Compact Laser Disc" discs (12-inch discs with maybe 10 minutes of analog video/digital audio, plus 45-50 minutes of digital audio). Nothing "compact" about those!

Pioneer made some combo DVD-Laserdisc players during the last years of the Laserdisc format. Nothing extremely good about them, though.

I know but they are awfully convient for those who are cramped on space!
