Do I really need a matching transformer to hook a 1962 RCA New Haven up to a vcr using a coax. cable?I have using jumper wires to the ant. hook up. the tv is puuting a pic on the screen but the sound hums very quietly and the picture will not hold horiz. sync so far. I still have 5 original caps to replace, just need to pick them up at Fair Radio first

Do invest in a transformer. You may find it still attached at the back of a junked TV.

For a VCR or digital tuner going to a TV, you could probably get away with just kluge-ing the coax onto the 300-ohm screw terminals. With a real antenna signal from a long piece of cable, it would make a bigger difference.

Yup. Gotta concur.

However those little transformers are cheap and available at RS, Lowe's etc. Makes a neater and more secure installation as well as satisfying impedances.

Yes, indeed. I keep plenty of spares around here, of both "genders", for hookup activities with older TVs and antennas.

There are transformers with two screws for the 300 ohm connection, that push onto a female 75 ohm F connector. Those are the "opposite gender" to me.
