View Full Version : Saw a 1980 Sears the other day.
Eric H 10-29-2012, 12:42 AM There was a really clean 1980 (built Dec 79) Sears 19" set at the thrift this weekend, it was playing fine and only $15 but I just didn't have room for it so I left it.
It had the single knob tuning with the thumbwheels for each individual channel inside the door, it was similar to my 1980 GE I had way back when, don't know if GE built sets for Sears though, may have been a Toshiba or a Sanyo.
I took a really bad Cel Phone picture of it.
lnx64 10-29-2012, 01:34 AM Oh my god, that is my childhood TV!!! I wish that TV was here!!
And yes, this is me, in the mid 80's.

sampson159 10-29-2012, 08:48 AM i remember that set!i think it had that crt with the focus pin on top.they made a really sharp picture
lnx64 10-29-2012, 10:41 AM They really were.. It was a very nice TV.
You have no idea how many memories it brought up, seeing another working set. I'd buy it in a heart beat, if it was here, and sell off the TV I use now.
wa2ise 10-29-2012, 01:29 PM And Apple stock was selling for $41 1/8th (see the display on the childhood TV set)! Now it's a little less than $600

Curious to know what VCR brand below was it that you blocked yourself in the photo?
Eric H 10-29-2012, 01:58 PM Well shoot, if I had known you wanted it I would have picked it up and held it for you.
If it's still there Friday do you want me to grab it?
IsthmusTV 10-29-2012, 03:24 PM "And the stockings were hung by the TV with care..."
Sorry, couldn't resist :D
lnx64 10-29-2012, 03:55 PM How would you get the tv to me? I foresee shipping damage all over it. Unless you plan to come by Florida some time soon

JVC. It has a neat double hinges door that opens up through the middle and locks when a tape is inserted. The front panel comes off and is the remote.

Forgot, Florida, never mind.
lnx64 10-29-2012, 05:26 PM Yea I figured lol. I need to setup my location.
At least another one runs.

Does it still work today, or it broke? Just checking these 1985 JVC VCRs reliability in general.
lnx64 10-29-2012, 05:52 PM I don't have it anymore. It was thrown away before I knew how to fix it.
