snelson903 08-22-2012, 04:52 AM cool nice save ,thats the magi from detroit right , nice score and free is even better.
sanjarali 08-22-2012, 05:42 AM TV is most grand. America is unexplainable in riches. In my birth nation it require pension of upper caste to have such TV. In this land man is happy to give grand TV for free! :music::smoke:
Sandy G 08-22-2012, 07:02 AM Kewl ! It looks to be in very good shape, too !
Tony V 08-22-2012, 10:03 AM I just hope it doesnt get necked laying on its back like that.
dieseljeep 08-22-2012, 10:06 AM Kewl ! It looks to be in very good shape, too !
I hope the CRT isn't necked, laying it on it's back like that. :sigh:
Sandy G 08-22-2012, 10:54 AM Yeah...That bothered me, too...
ctc17 08-22-2012, 11:07 AM Wow, TV abuse! That almost seems intentional to push our buttons.
snelson903 08-22-2012, 11:30 AM lets hope it just laying over the open compartment that some jeeps have in that area, but it looks like he's got up on some bags or something.
sanjarali 08-22-2012, 11:38 AM :scratch2: dieseljeep and tony v are same words? I translation necked and says
necked[ nekt ]
adjective
1.#having a neck of a kind specified (usually used in combination): a square-necked blouse.
neck[ nek ]
noun
1.#the part of the body of an animal or human being that connects the head and the trunk.
(used with object)
1.#to embrace, kiss, and caress (someone) amorously.
2.#to strangle or behead.
I do not read?? :scratch2:
TV is not animal. :thumbsdn:
mpatoray 08-22-2012, 11:47 AM When talking about a Television picture tube there is a "Neck" of the tub at the back behind the bell, to have a tube "necked" means that the end of the tube gets broken off, destroying the tube. So definition 2 form the use as a noun is about the best description of what happens.
DaveWM 08-22-2012, 12:00 PM did you break the CRT by laying it on the back for transport. I hope that is clear.
Sandy G 08-22-2012, 06:21 PM Yeah, there's usually a plastic triangular/oddly-shaped piece of plastic that sticks out the back of most TVs that protects the back end of the CRT where the socket & connections are...It is generally NOT designed to hold any great amount of weight, is easily broken, & then the weight of the entire TV comes down on the VERY fragile small end of the CRT, & it will break, rendering the CRT junk.
ggregg 08-22-2012, 07:37 PM The worst sound in the world is when you bump it and you hear all the vacuum hissing out.
snelson903 08-22-2012, 09:08 PM :scratch2:is it working yet , want picture's of it working . you have been to quiet ??
josephdaniel 08-22-2012, 09:36 PM it looks like he has it sitting on some bags so the CRT is probably fine.
snelson903 08-22-2012, 11:12 PM it looks like he has it sitting on some bags so the CRT is probably fine.
thats what i thought way back in the begining of all this ,but then i thought i was missing something ,but i still want to see some pictures of the inside and condition. i think the add said it still worked didnt it.
NewVista 08-22-2012, 11:31 PM In my birth nation it require pension of upper caste to have such TV. :
What is country for where you were born?
dieseljeep 08-23-2012, 09:16 AM :The worst sound in the world is when you bump it and you hear all the vacuum hissing out.
It's the air hissing in, in reality.
Probably where the term " hissy fit " originated. :D
sanjarali 08-23-2012, 09:35 AM Hello I am OK!
TV is at jeep now for until cousin bashir is not having his job. Maybe on day now.:D :D

Norbert 08-23-2012, 11:31 AM Yikes, I don't like seeing the set on its back like that either. Definitely NOT a safe way to transport a television set, but like other posters have said, it appears that it is raised in such a way where the CRT is protected, however, the weight of that set will most certainly cause the back cover to bow in as those fiberboard backs were never intended to support any weight.
Not a bad looking set though. I remember my Grandma had almost the exact same one when I was a kid, it lasted up to about 1984 or so before it was replaced with a used Zenith that was about 5 years old at the time. The old tube Magnavox sets were sometimes quirky but they did have great pictures! Nice save!
sanjarali 08-23-2012, 12:22 PM I now understand words of necking to CRT. :sigh:
I will speak Bishar to steady TV and save. many here help me.
lnx64 08-23-2012, 12:36 PM So you broke it.
Good job.
zenithfan1 08-23-2012, 04:44 PM He didn't say it's broken. Sanjarali, did the CRT glass neck get broken?
lnx64 08-23-2012, 06:30 PM Oh it looked to me it was inferred he had. I'm just having a difficult time understanding him.
snelson903 08-23-2012, 06:48 PM He didn't say it's broken. Sanjarali, did the CRT glass neck get broken?
i not sure what's being said here ? im confused. well if it's broken, he's all excited about it !
Sandy G 08-23-2012, 06:48 PM ...And him unnerstandin' US, too... So let's all kinda give him the benefit of the doubt, OK ?
AUdubon5425 08-23-2012, 08:28 PM I'll bet he works under a bridge in the woods...
Eric H 08-23-2012, 08:37 PM Oh it looked to me it was inferred he had. I'm just having a difficult time understanding him.
He simply said he understands what Necking means now, not that it had gotten necked.
Mal Fuller 08-23-2012, 09:26 PM The vacuum doesn't "hiss out," the air hisses in.
wa2ise 08-23-2012, 09:34 PM Yikes, I don't like seeing the set on its back like that either. Definitely NOT a safe way to transport a television set, but like other posters have said, it appears that it is raised in such a way where the CRT is protected...
One thing to be careful and worry about is when the vehicle hits a bump or pothole, the set could bounce enough to smack the end of the CRT neck and bust it off.
bgadow 08-23-2012, 10:32 PM I think the TV will be okay, just be very careful and aware of the dangers.
Sanjari, some of the guys here like to pick on your use of the English language. I say, how many of them can speak even two words of your language! Enjoy the TV!
Aussie Bloke 08-24-2012, 04:19 AM Great find over there in Oman, on research I read that television was introduced there in 1974 and your television looks to be made in the late 1960s, if I am correct you most certainly have an early rare set predating television in your country!!!:D Over here in Australia (where I live), I last year picked up a 1947 Andrea VJ12 television chassis http://troysvintagevideo.0catch.com/andrea.html which predates television in Australia by 9 years (we got B&W TV in 1956), so that was an excellent score for me!:D Anyhow hope your TV survived the trip without damage.
sanjarali 08-24-2012, 07:51 AM AussieBlokeHave TV is in USA. Also I am in USA. My borning was in Oman until uncle was executed for disloyal to party. :thumbsdn::thumbsdn:All family must leave Oman or women get stoned and men must remove penis. :thumbsdn::thumbsdn::thumbsdn::thumbsdn:We make way to Saudi Arabia and go to USA Dearborn MI 48126. ctc17 08-24-2012, 08:21 AM Sounds like the typical collage initiation party.
Do we have a make and model number on this set yet? Looks like a Magnavox from the bottom
David Roper 08-24-2012, 08:33 AM Executed, how terrible. Removal of a large and powerful member seems like punishment (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDss8V2OME4) enough.

Sandy G 08-24-2012, 08:33 PM Yeah...No kiddin'...
sanjarali 08-25-2012, 08:17 PM I am happy! Today I made digital signal connection and electricity into TV. The glow tubes illuminate and I am happy. Time and photograph appears to CRT!:banana:
I rotate many of the apparatus to make colour but am not success. :thumbsdn:
:tears:
I have many thoughts to repair. On digital switch connector I find unwise wiring. :scratch2:
David Roper 08-25-2012, 08:33 PM The important thing is that Maggie made it there in one piece. I see color on the screen, could it just be in chronic need of proper set up?
mstaton 08-25-2012, 08:43 PM Purity and focus issues I see right off the bat
snelson903 08-25-2012, 08:48 PM do you have any setup equitment ? make yourself a de-magna-tizing coil 400feet of 22 gauge wire in a 12-14 inch circle .i would start there first clean up the crt don't start turning knobs if you not sure of what your doing ,watch some youtube or read up first ,im sure everyone kinda has his own routine of bring old sets color back to life and focus / sharp/ ex.
zenithfan1 08-25-2012, 09:06 PM I'm glad the set made it home safe. Do you have a tube tester? If not, you will need one. Change the 1V2 focus rectifier tube (it's a little tube that is by the high voltage part of the tv which is that big metal box on the right side of the chassis.) This tube sticks out sideways from there. The focus control is a plastic stick at the back of the chassis that is below it. Slide that in and out for focus. It has a locking screw that holds it in place. The lack of color is most likely a tube in the color section of the chassis that is bad. I've had several of these sets in the past, I wish I were closer to you so I could help you work on it. And please follow snelsons advise on not turning knobs unless you know what they do. The greyscale or black and white part of the picture looks ok for now so don't turn the color drive controls on the back, they are the controls with a red, green and blue shaft. The best place to start on this one is checking all the tubes, the picture tube looks ok to me, it's bright enough that it will produce a nice picture once the chassis is right.

Above, "sanjarali" wants you to think he's only been exposed

Charlie 08-26-2012, 05:00 AM Or he's using an online translator.
I think you're right, Eric. I sometimes use the Google translator to correspond with a friend in Spanish. There are times when we have to cover a subject more than once due to the bad grammar from the translator.
oldtvsandtoy 08-26-2012, 09:23 AM Hey is that Johnson helping you out? I know you two are best buds?
Dennman6 08-26-2012, 09:39 AM Or he's using an online translator.
Or he's pulling a "Borat" on all of us with the Old Empire stereotype of "English" as used by the lower castes. Either way, his interest in restoring the Magnavox seems genuine since he has posted a pic of it in operation. I hope his project goes well.
holmesuser01 08-26-2012, 02:45 PM Sanjarali,
Been reading up on this. You've got a nice looking old Magnavox there.
It might be a good idea to find someone there in Detroit that has a tube tester and check the color tubes. Hopefully, the person with a tester can come to you. Dont take all the tubes out at one time. Remove one tube at a time, test it, and put it back. You might find that this is all that is wrong.
Did you try adjusting the 'fine tuning' control there on the channel selector to see if the color might happen to come on? Set the tint at the midway point, and the same for the color control. You might be surprised.
You havent turned any controls on the back of the set, yet, have you?
Best of luck getting this old set going. I have a cousin that had a TV very much like yours that was never worked on until 1995, and the repair was a single tube.

zenithfan1 08-28-2012, 09:15 AM Come on now, give him a chance.....
DavGoodlin 08-28-2012, 02:44 PM I worked on quite a few of these too, I also unfortunately removed some sets' insides so the grand furniture could be re-purposed by their owner.
As an example of grand glorious color status TV from 60's, its THE BEST. The sound on these was excellent.
BUT Please give us a model number (see long tag on back upper right of cabinet) and the numbers from the little white tag on the rear of chassis. We all can really help once I know if its a T904 or T919 or T920, I'll send you a schematic and chapter from my Stan Prentiss book on how to set these up.
They differ little from RCA in many respects. What say Sanjarali?
NewVista 08-28-2012, 02:56 PM Or he's using an online translator.
That would be possible
But Islamic state of Oman practices male mutilation? No way.
INS would not buy this.
Charlie 08-28-2012, 07:02 PM Perhaps this is being taken a little too far. We should stick to the topic of the vintage Magnavox that he seems to be very proud of. That's why we're here... remember?

ditto! its all about the tv's i thought.
sanjarali 08-28-2012, 08:43 PM Hello! Today is awarded massive gift because the man contact me and help to make TV operate!! :bigok::bigok: The error comes because adjust of tuning is not correct. Very simple error!!!:sadwave::drool: My thirsty to make repair is fast speed. :D Please enjoy.
Charlie 08-28-2012, 09:29 PM Wow... looking better! :thmbsp:
It looks like the convergence needs touching up. The verticle is lacking some at the bottom... probably a cap or electrolytic would fix that.
snelson903 08-28-2012, 10:23 PM looks like its waking up ,let it run for awhile its probley been sitting along time. oh yes, dont leave it run alone put a movie in and watch it .
AiboPet 08-29-2012, 06:47 AM I second that "let it run a bit". He is not a tech...so seeing what he has to start with and saving the set from a bunch of possible death scenarios. Just don't let it run unnatended, just in case something goes pearshaped quickly. Looks like someone "manipulated" the convergence dials....some of the colored stuff on the neck, and maybe played with the vertical size, centering rings, etc.
He is obviously VERY proud of this. I don't want to see this thread end in misery.
I think more than a schematic...he could use just a VERY thorough operating manual...and maybe a good setup guide to start with (which just may include a schematic anyway of course :-P )
holmesuser01 08-30-2012, 09:35 PM If it suddenly changes the size of the picture, or makes a funny noise, Turn it off!!
It's got good color. Most of the set is running fine...
Whatever you do, dont adjust the controls on the neck of the picture tube without knowing what they do. Your set is looking pretty good at this point.
radiotron 09-07-2012, 10:27 PM :scratch2: dieseljeep and tony v are same words? I translation necked and says

it means the neck of the picture tube got hit, and broken:thumbsdn::no:
