My wonderful Zenith Avanti stereo console TV is again in need of repair. We were recently watching it and all of a sudden it crackled and the screen went mostly black -- I immediately jumped up and turned it off. I have since turned it on once brieflly and it crackles (chassis crackling?), but the sound is fine. My excellent TV repairman moved away and I can't locate anyone who is willing to work on it, or make a housecall. I would certainly be willing to take it to a shop that has experience with these older sets. It has a 25EC58 chassis.

Any help or leads would be MUCH appreciated! Thank you.

A short ramble...

I believe thats the chassis that has several safety capacitors that fail and cause the high voltage to go extremely high and can crack the picture tube. (EOL the TV)
That would be an easy one for me to diagnose and fix but I am 8 hours south of you.

I pick up some of that type of work from an old tv shop that has been around for 40 years, stuff he doesn't want to deal with anymore. There are still a few old shops around that would take that on but its going to take some looking to find one.
This is one area were I would say the phone book is still your friend. Just start calling every shop and tell them what you got. Your bound to find a hold out locally.

Right on about those safety caps. This is an old post but if you're still looking I'd be willing to have a look for you if you can't find anyone closer.
