hey all yes me again, this 63 silvertone i have has like a ghost bar in the middle of the screen but certain scenes its there others its not. and the colors seem to be brighter on the bottom of the bar then the top and with scenes the bar moves around up and down alittle. its always had it but sometimes its alttle more lately. most old tvs i have seen have this but any suggestions on how to get rid of it. i have changed all the caps in the verticle board so im lost now.

I have a vcr that blinks 12:00 all the time so I put a piece of tape over it.

well to fix that, all you have to do is set the time.......

what kind of tape should I use....

What about he power supply caps? Have they been changed? I would also check the tubes for heater to cathode shorts. Also resolver all the ground connections and be sure all the tube shields are in place.

I bet its you source. Crappy modulator in the cable box or whatever you source is.

I agree. I get jailbars with the cheapo modulators. The Rat Shack(1980's) one I have seems to be the best. The one built into my digital converter box sucks. Very crappy sound and only an OK picture. Could be a crappy cable or balun. Try a different channel. 4 instead of 3.

Almost sounds like a drive line. Could be a weak output tube or mis adjusted lineraty coil.

Dave has a good solution, paint a racing stripe over the affected area.

the only thing i am using is a directv box and my other sets dont do this with the same box. i checked tubes all there good.

Model? Is this one of those ctc11 clones? can you post pic?

its the ctc12 clone the set that is on my posts in the corner. its kind of hard to see but what seems like a black bar under the phone number is what moves up or down with different scenes. even movement in the picture moves this bar around ,its like the bar trys to follow the movement and it seems like in the verticle. how criticle is tube sheilds because this set may be missing one or 2.

Put you direct tv box on the menu or channel guide and adjust the focus, It looks real soft.
Usually the chroma osc and of tube has shields and I have never noticed any effect.
Try turning the contrast down a tad and see if the bar goes away.

What is the model number? Or sears chassis number?

well i was kind of close with the camera and the contrast i leave just about all the way clockwise because of those 3 color retrace lines they are so much less with the contrast up and down the lines are all over. ill do the focus again. i checked the converge yesterday and it was off alittle, this set was fine now these things are creeping up. oh well its old so it needs tlc. ill have to get back to you on the chassis number.

Also try backing the agc off a tad.

ok ill try that, and i lowered the contrast and its not to bad but it is an old set and i am greatful that it works as good as it does.

well i raised the agc and there it was so i backed it off a bit and it looks good. well maybe i did have it alittle to high.

with this rca ctc16x set i have that i had to sub the tube, if the damper tube is weak would this be a reason for not getting the 3 color lines up in the service mode and crt bias at max or could it only be the boost diode. this has a 3 position bias switch and its at max and the screen is really bright and clear, i guess i could say it does have a perfect picture. i forgot to add that the crt tests very good no shorts.

I doubt it. Usually if those tubes are weak the picture will shrink and pull in from the sides.

Check your DC voltages on the screen pots and make sure the boost is there. Also the bias switch could be bad.

the bias switch has 3 positions and each one seems to work as i get a darker picture as i switch it to the other spots. ill check those voltages, i think around 6-700volts i think. thanks

Are you using a vcr if so its probobly flagging.:scratch2:
