Is the green original on this set? Looks like the label and back are green too so I think it is.
What a shame, why couldn't they leave it alone and let the buyer decide what they want to do with it?

That CTC17 would have been a really good TV for someone (with the usual recap and other normal restoration procedures, of course) if the seller had left it alone and was selling it 100 percent intact. The only thing I could see wrong with it at first glance was a CRT cataract.

Believe it or not, that cabinet has the original finish. I ran into a few of these when I was doing repairs back in the '70s.

Magnavox did weird things like that to their cabinets in the late 60's-early 70's. It's almost as ugly as that thing in the upper left corner of this post.

DEFINITELY a CTC-17, and an early-run 17. That was RCA's first rectangular color set, and was a CTC-16 modified for the rectangular tube. Rare, and probably that custom finish job was done when it was new. Likely a millionaire had an interior designer do the whole room, and they sent out the TV to a custom shop for the job.

I could be wrong here, but I think that the green back with RCA printed info pretty much confirms that this is a factory job. Perhaps custom color schemes could be ordered through RCA at that time?

That color green was popular for kitchen appliances back in the 70's. Today we all say "yuck". :yuck:

FIRST thing I thought of when I saw that was Avocado kitchen appliances of the 60s-70s.

Still doesn't really explain why someone would want a big wood console in the FRONT ROOM to match that.

This is the second most disturbing thing I've seen today!

I went to my local Goodwill and rushed up to what I thought was a 40's Airline console that was painted black and was missing the grill cloth and backer board below the single grille bar......Something felt amiss, and when I saw the wine ice bucket inset into the top my heart sank as I realized that some A-hole had butchered a nice set to make it into a F'ing BAR! With what they had done to the cabinet and the knobs to make it in to a bar and get rid of the chassis all that was salvageable was the dial scale and bezel which to me ain't worth the 10$ they want. If I had met the person who did that I would have asked them If I could repurpose their brains into soylent-green since they clearly were using their brains less than the chassis they tossed in the trash.

Some of these artsy-fartsy and green types' IQs could benefit from a a good lobotomy....They would have far less bad ideas that way.

Many 60's era RCA sets had those lime green labels then as I remember them clear as day from back in the early 70's when I worked on these.

It pretty much boiled down to who was the paper supplier for a particular run of labels, some were green, others white, others grey. And the cabinets didn't reflect the color of the label either...

Actually, if the label was green, that means Sarnoff got lucky with his wife the night before the set was built. If it was white, she had a headache. If it was gray, Sarnoff couldn't perform, and was embarrassed :nono: If the label was missing, he had secretly seen a woman of ill repute that night.

Actually, down at the old RCA Labs in Princeton, as there were no decent hotels in the immediate area back in Sarnoff's day, RCA had built a small wing off the company library that had a small apartment for him to stay the night if he visited the labs. Maybe... there was something going on in there related to said woman... :D
