I went to the flea market and found this TV on one of the tables with a "FREE" sign on it; so, it had to come home with me. It's a GE "performance television" 15" solid state B&W TV that uses the XB chassis. The date sticker is missing; but, it's probably from the late '70's. At first, the CRT looked very soft and dim; but, got better after it stayed on for a few hours. It probably will eventually need a new CRT and the tuner/controls need cleaning. Otherwise, it's a nice looking set and the price was right. GE also made some similar looking tube sets.

I remember back in the 70's there were a lot of GE tube sets with that layout, knobs at the bottom and tall and skinny.

I picked up several of them at Swap Meets and we sold them at the TV Shop.

They were built really cheap with a flimsy circuit board at the bottom, how they stood up to tube heat I don't know but they always seemed to work, though they weren't all that old at the time.

Let me know if you could use the factory service manual for it, there is a good chance I have it. (I need to find a home for all those GE manuals, it looks like they cover quite a few of the 70s/80s models)

Looks like they used the back off a similar-sized color set...No way a monochrome CRT woulda taken up all THAT much room...

I have seen GE tube, hybrid, and solid state sets, all with that layout. I presently have a 12" hybrid set like this. recently the sound quit. I cleaned the sound IC socket and sound IC pins, which fixed the problem. The IF, tuner, vertical and horizontal sections are mostly tube. The horizontal oscillator is solid state though.

The trick is to find one of these with a good crt. GE liked to use crts with the smallest cathodes on these sets.

It looks like that picture tube isn't designed for that case, just doesn't appear it fits right.

The set is so slim the back probably has to accommodate the yoke as well as the CRT neck.

I was actually referring to the frame around the face of the CRT. The corners seen more square on the tube than the frame had in mind.
