Yesterday I fixed a late '60s Minerva model "Saratoga", 23'' b&w hybrid flat chassis, six tubes. As usual I found some bad capacitors in AGG, horizontal driver and in audio output stage... This is a typical italian set, but it have one of the best b&w picture I ever seen... :smoke:

Minerva was originally an austrian brand, but Mr. Luigi Cozzi dell'Aquila in 1937 began to produce radios under license in Milan, Italy. In 1968 Grundig acquired the Minerva brand, and continues the production of radios and TVs until 1980. :)

Was there any relationship to the Minerva Corp. of America, to the Austrian firm.? They were only here for a few years, postwar.

Back in those days electronics look different in each country, compared to today's world where everything looks the same, no matter where you're at..

No, the Minerva Co. of America was founded by italian immigrants without relationship to the austrian or italian firms.

That's a nice set but the cabinet looks different (more italian) compared to the austrian Minerva sets in my opinion. I also own an early austrian Minerva B&W TV-Radio-Phono combo from 1956 which I restored to functional condition. I will open a new thread if you guys are interested in european sets.

This cabinet style is typical of many European sets of the late sixties; this Minerva was probably built in 1968-69

Today I fixed a Recofix 19'' B&W, with 13 tube. It's been builded around 1966 I think. This brand was used by Mr. Luigi Cozzi dell'Aquila, and the chassis is the same used on the italian Minerva sets. It's an all tube chassis except the UHF tuner and the double diode in the horizontal oscillator (in the previous version of this chassis was used an EAA91)

Great looking sets, I like the styling on both of them and the Saratoga - what a nice picture it has. :) Cheers Glen
