I picked up a 19" Chromacolor Hybrid set with original stand at an estate sale. I didn't really need it, but couldn't pass it up. The set was spotless, and has a fantastic picture. I haven't had to do anything to it, but set it up. I decided to put my 1976 Chromacolor 2 in storage because this set performs better and has a better picture. Can anyone tell me what year Zenith made these, and any opinions about them if you have one or worked on one. My only experiance with one was not good. This looks like the same model of a set that was a lemon from the day my Uncle sold it new. It was one of the few Zeniths that got pitched as soon as it was traded in. He junked it out and gave the owner a fantastic deal on a Chromacolor 2 the last time it broke. He didn't even bring it into the shop. It went from the back of the van to the trash. He just wanted it gone! Anyway... this one seems great!

I ran across alot of junkie hybrid sets but I cant really say that
was one of them. 69 was the first year for the Chromacolor.
I think 74 was the last. Then they went to Chromacolor II
in 75. The one you have would fall within that time frame.
If you give us the model and chassis number somone here
may be able to pinpoint a year.

Great find! Those are my favorite sets. Those 4 tube hybrid zeniths always had an excellent picture. All of the TV teks in my area liked those sets too for picture quality and ease of repair. Ive got 5 of them, and luckily one is a sc500 remote set.

Here are the chassis that were available as the 4 tube hybrid. The chassis types are known as the "titan chassis" featuring "solid state dura-modules" (from a 1971 zenith brochure)

Zenith actually called this set the "4 tube hybrid" in there service manuals, and were produced from 1971-74, however, some models from 1975 can be found with detent UHF tuners. I had one when I was a kid and have never seen one since.
If your set has the "chromatic" button on it, then its from 1973, and has a 19DC11 chassis most likely. Please post a picture! (when AK gets back to normal)

A week ago there was a 19" Chromacolor at the flea market for $15; I passed. If it had been a little cheaper, or a little older, I'd have carried it home. Too much stuff here already and nobody real easy to trade with.

So was the Chromacolor II Zenith's first all transistor color set? '75 seems late for that, but I don't know. I once had a retiring tv repairman try to sell me a beautiful Chromacolor console that worked like new, and he told me he had wired it to be instant-on. I had a hard time believing it was a tube set, but I guess it was. Would be nice to have that set now, but back then AK wasn't even a dream...
