This set is usually too new for my taste. But it was the last style of this set that my parents bought. In fact this is the set. Cleaning out my parents home as they have both passed on. Watching Rawhide on it right now. It was built in March of 1986. First stereo tv I ever watched 174557

Does that use a CTC130 chassis? Those were good sets.

It is model # GLR899PR and no reference on back as to what chassis it uses. The back has never been off. I told Mom to watch Lawrence Welk once a month on it. This set was in the walkout basement and Dad was not able to go downstairs after the year 2000. So it has seen little use since that year. Even before that it wasnt used much. Cabinet is real nice still. A keeper.

I have a CTC-133B, and it's a great TV. It's a console on a swivel base, and I'd like to have a similar set as a table model for a different room. Great picture, as it employs I-Q demod.:banana:

Sams shows a CTC130C-AAA, whatever that means. Sams folder 2504-1.

Got one in the garage just like it. Cabinet may not be as nice as yours, but is does work.

This 130 uses a COLD power supply(at least mine does) mounted on a small chassis to the right of the TV chassis. This is to make it MUCH easier to safely allow for that strip of A/V inputs next to the tuner. Most other CTC-130 sets, without A/V inputs were "hot". I "saved" mine from a Goodwill some years ago for this very reason--the cold, High-power audio amp and A/V option, which i liked when theses sets were new--and still do. Otherwise--it was destined for a "crushing" time.


CAUTION!! IF you intend to use this set at ALL--you MUST do this(or get someone to do it if you are not able)--that set has an "MTT" module on it, that comprises the tuner and system control ckts. of the set. They were NOTORIOUS for developing " bad connections" in them, and doing some "weird things" such as coming on by themselves, turning the sound ALL the way up in the middle of the night, and ALSO--BLOWING the horiz--output!! If the right pins on that module get bad connections at just the "right time" it WILL drive the H-out off frequency and BLOW it--BEFORE you can switch the set off. I HAVE seen this before myself, years ago, when I worked on these sets day-to--day.

So--resolder ALL of the "stakes" on the MTT module--these have the wires connected to them that leave the module to go the set. Likely--this is all you will need to do. I have NOT done mine yet--nor had in on in a few years either.

I can't remember the number; but, I also remember a transistor inside the MTT module that would fail and cause either a "no power" condition or a set that would not fully shut off, depending on the type of transistor failure. In a few cases, I've seen bad caps inside the MTT module. These fixes will take care of 95% of MTT module problems and I've fixed a lot of them that would have otherwise been sent to the scrap pile because a shop wanted to change the whole module; which, was very costly. The only MTT modules I remember not being able to fix were ones that lightning lowered the boom on.

@RCA2000, I had one of these sets given to me a few years ago and it did the volume thing and one morning watching the news it smoked itself, I never knew why. Now I do, I can and will resolder all of the stakes. And radiotvnut, thanks for the tips and will replace the caps inside the module. Appreciate the feedback, this set is a keeper and will be a watcher too.
