View Full Version : Help with 1959 Admiral Electrolytic?

Just started to recap this Admiral portable,
and now I am on to the electrolytics.
There is one can with a cardboard covering, which is clipped into the chassis. There are 10mfd and 50mfd in the can.
I can plainly see where the positive ends are in the center,
but there are also two yellow wires, connected to the outer metal can inside the cardboard.
I am assuming these yellow wires attach to the ground side of the new Electrolytics.
There is nothing specified anywhere for which yellow wire goes where?
On my schematic, it shows the routes, but they cross each other.
I guess my question is,
How do I determine which yellow wire goes to the neg. end of 10mfd, and which goes to 50mfd?

They share a common ground. In other words the two yellow wires are connected together at the can.

Okay I'm back on track...
By the way, I saw your admiral portable,
it's the same as mine except for the color.
Have you got a chance to do anything to it yet?

No, not yet but I did score a stack of genuine Admiral service manuals for $0.99 a few days ago including the 14YP3 and 15C1 chassis used in the metal portables.

They go into a lot more detail than the Sams photofact.
