Well I don't believe it. On my way home from work I saw a CTC-4 on the side of the road. It was in rough shape, but the insides seemed ok. Sadly I couldn't fit it in my Caprice's trunk or back seat.

So I get home, grab a truck, get out there, and......................it's gone... :drool:

I missed out on a roundie! Just because, ironically, my big car couldn't hold it.

Yea, it sucks.. I'm sure I'll find another. I just hope it wasn't the garbage truck that got it, cause that area I think has garbage pickup today late at night.

Hopefully someone scored it and saved it.

Ouch! If I was in your shoes I'd make a vow to always have rope and a blanket in my car to tie any find of that caliber to the roof if need be.

Now I get back to rust removal from my CTC-4 with greater appreciation of it.

Not without tools, for a CTC4 I would probably risk scratching the car a little and slide it onto the roof, then drive home slowly with one hand on the set. :D

Doesn't take any tools to pull the CRT... Good 21AXP's aren't common anymore.

My Bonneville was a lot like your Caprice: a huge car with no practical room! The most insulting part about the lack of trunkspace was the lack of a fold down back seat: instead, you could fold down the arm rest, open a small door, and reach into the trunk for some reason. This led to creative means of getting larger items home: My CTC-9 just sort of rested on the lip of the open trunk, and then copious ropes and tiedowns were used to hold it there. To get a Victrola home, I found I had enough room in my backseat, but the horrible Bonneville doors didn't open very wide in the back. Solution: take the door off the hinges!

Several years ago, I saw a few knuckle heads haul a used rug from a thrift shop on the roof of a late model Saab. It was rolled up that the jute backing was exposed. I thought, with the amount of damage they did to the paint job, the whole house could have been carpeted.

I have done that for years with my house doors to get things in and out; I never imagined car doors would be easy enough to make it worthwhile. I think I will look at mine. There have been plenty of things I could have got in and out in the past if a door opened wider (or was removed).

Oh that's heartbreaking! I feel your pain! Years back, I found a neat old RCA Victor color tv, from about 1957. Console model, vertical type design. My friend and I put it on top of his old mail vehicle and brought it here. Parents made me get rid of it quick, so some older man got it and had someone fix it. He was so happy with it until his grandson detuned it from the back. He lived in a 1920s house two towns up, I still wonder if the set is still in there.

I brought a Magnavox color stereo theatre here in the trunk of a 1963 Mercury Monterey two door hardtop. I brought a Magnavox 300 Series stereo console from West Palm Beach in the same car. Brought my two Magnavox tube record player consoles home in the trunk of a '75 Buick Century sedan. Ah well........

I also feel your pain. I have had my share of missed opportunities as we should expect all of us on this list have. It is simply part of the game. I am sure another set in even better condition will turn up.

After all, maybe the biggest fun is that one day we may find a 21CT55 or TRK12 lurking in someone's basement or in a thrift shop.
