It takes a little work to get it to fit right, but once it's in there it's worth the effort IMO.

I purchased one of these for a VT-71 I have, but I've not yet installed it. It seemed expensive to me, but one of those final touches that makes the set look all the better when you're done with a restoration.

I've used three of them and they are identical to the originals. It is a tight fit, but looks good once installed.

I bought one too, and haven't yet installed it. Based on the quality and texture of the rubber, it's very accurate-looking, and I see no reason why it wouldn't fit. I think it may arrive a little out-of-shape, but the tube nested into the gasket should straighten it out nicely. If it's noticeably out of shape, I'd put it in the sun for a few hours to soften it up before installing it.

I have bought two of them and have one installed. They are just fine.

I bought one too, it fits well but it's a little tricky to install.

I had to lube the face of the tube (water based gel only) to get it to fit, then you have to tighten the neck clamp while you hold it, two people might make it easier.

This is probably why some of them had Friction Tape on the neck, to keep it from slipping backwards.

I'm the one that got these reproductions made with the help of Chuck A. who loaned us a perfect original one. (yes, at least one perfect original still exists!) Ed S. who runs Renovated Radios is a neighbor of mine and is the guy who reproduces all the knobs and rubber parts. He wanted to know what parts us TV guys would like, and this is the first thing that came to me. He uses an expanding closed cell urethane foam to make these to the original consistency and pliancy. The material cost is fairly high and then he rejects a number of them if they get air bubbles in them. The fit is as the original but it does help to wet the inside edge when installing the crt to ease the positioning of it.

The mask is near the bottom of the page. I believe Ed ships world wide. I would contact him first as the Paypal shipping calculator is usually wrong for international, and rates have gone up here significantly.

My blond VT-71 still has a decent original CRT gasket so that makes two!:banana:

That's good to know Tom. The initial problem with reproducing these was I couldn't get Ed a good one. The ones in my sets that appeared fine would not come out. No matter how we tried (heat, solvents, etc) they would shatter into pieces when trying to remove them from the front board. We actually started gluing the pieces of one of them back together so he could at least start making the master, but then Chuck came up with this one that was still pliable and hadn't lost it's shape. I couldn't believe that any had survived and were still pliable. That was a life saver and made these repro's possible.

Let me say again that the masks that Ed S. makes are excellent. He went to a lot of work to make the first one. As I mentioned, I have two of them. They certainly do make the VT-71 complete. Maybe one feels that they are expensive, but they do look good when done...

It cost's thousands to get a 15G rebuilt for the CT-100, $43 isn't all that much. :D

I know that any restoration that I do on any set will never return my investment. For that matter, I, unlike most, will often buy a set because it is complete and cosmetically acceptable. Usually the condition CRT is low on my list of "Reject" items. Just the way I do it. And of course, these little VT-71 sets are just average in performance but cute. My attraction is because I remember that Dad had one in the basement for years. I don't remember what happened to it and I don't remember ever seeing it work. I did find the Sams Photofact with his voltage measurements written on it. So, they have some meaning to me. And then I become obsessed and buy more than one copy of them. Don't know why other than to swap parts and get a really nice one. But again, not cost effective; just what I do...
