This is for the TV in my sig.

Every once in a while it looses horizontal hold.. Vertical seems fine, but the horizontal is completely lost.

Now here's the problem, I have recently been falling asleep in bed with this TV on, only to wake up in the morning with it still on.

Is it possible a tube is failing, or possibly something like a Capacitor? Smacking it on the side DOES cure it for another few days. So it seems like something loose, but all physical wires and tubes, seem to be secure. I even sanded the tubes pins, the electrical device that is not soldered or screwed down.

Cold solder joints have a thing for PCB sets....I'd try resoldering all connections around the horizontal osc. Also if there are one or more pots that control the horizontal freq and or hold I reccomend cleaning them with Deoxit and setting them for the most stable hold with a WEAK signal being fed to the set. If there is an adjustable horizontal osc coil I recommend tweaking it according to the sam's procedure for your set such that best synch is obtained at the center of the user horizontal hold control range.

That is all that comes to mind now.

I'll definitely go over the soldering on it, you're probably right.

Any plug-in modules on the chassis? I had an RCA CTC-74 (?) that would lose vertical sync until I moved the set even a fraction of an inch, and would never act up on the bench. I finally resoldered the entire module and the main chassis PCB and the grounds around the sync circuits.

May not be a 74. It was an XL-100 console with the SCR horizontal output.

Anyway, it never acted up again. I sold it, and about a year ago, I got to see that it was still running perfectly... although somewhat purple-ish due to a weak CRT... after only 15 years!!

Only plug in module this TV has appears to be for sound, which is working fine. Everything else that plugs in are just tubes.

I'm going to give the soldering a go, but also perhaps clean all the tubes contacts..

resoldered a few stuff, has been working fine, so maybe that was it.

I also reseated all tubes and stuff too, to be safe.
