So i went to an estate sale today and found a 5" round crt, a 5fp7a. The box says its a tv crt. Ive done a bit of looking online and cant seem to find what tv's used these. Im guessing late 40s from it being such a small roundy.
But for 12.50 i couldnt turn this down.

A P7 Phosphor would be Orange and long persistence, I would think it's for a Radar or a Scope application.

Darn, oh well. The outside of the box had the numbers and "tv tube" written on it. Guess i got fooled.

P12 is the orange radar phosphor. P7 is a dual phosphor. Short persistence blue and long persistence yellow as used for radar displays. I hooked up a different model P7 CRT to a vintage TV once. It's a freaky display to watch for sure, but could be used for testing.
You could probably sub it in for a 10BP4, but the base is different so you'd need an adapter. Here's some data for it: http://www.scottbecker.net/tube/sheets/141/5/5FP7B.pdf

go ahead and build it....find a schematic from 40's

The 5FP7 is now in my hands and I'll try popping it in a working chassis ASAP.

I sure will. I just tested it on my Sencore CR70 and found a G1 short. A few blasts from the clear shorts function took care of that. It has an octal base so I'll need to make an adapter before I can try it out.

I think I have one of those too. It uses a yoke and a magnetic focalizer. I also see it has a octal base as well.
