I would say no, it's a Shadow Mask type tube, each color is surrounded by a black area, i.e. "Black Matrix Tube"

The Cromaclear apparently has no black area between the colors in the vertical axis, similar to the Trinitron except the Trinitron has masking only in the vertical axis.

Cromaclear seems to have been an attempt to build a better tube without violating Sony's Patent on the Aperture Grille system.

Everybody had a name for their tube... Toshiba Blackstripe, Sharp Linytron, Panasonic Quintrix, etc etc.

I don't know much of anything about the particulars, so that Wiki article is good. I always bunched inline tubes together, and delta guns together, but I guess there are many specific differences among the inlines.

Chromaclear sounds too close to Chromacolor, the latter being Zenith's registered trademark for their color TVs of the 1970s. Were there ever any copyright infringement battles between Zenith and whatever manufacturer was using the Chromaclear name? :scratch2:

Yes, it is basically "Chromaclear", the essence of which is vertically aligned phosphors with the cross-bars staggered from column to column. As kx250rider says, many of the in-line-gun CRTs were similar.

Edit: the part about elliptical spot shape to "match" the "elliptical" holes is mostly ballyhoo. The spot in a CRT has to cover several color triads, or it will generate intense moire patterns. Elliptical spot shape may be more important in maintaining corner focus when used with a self-converging yoke, which may have elliptical spot effects of its own.
