I'd posted about this a week or so ago in the Tube section of Audio Karma since I thought I'd be mainly using this unit for audio, but as it turns out the TV works mostly as-is, and I've discovered I really like watching vintage TV on it the short visits I've had with it. It's not at my house since we don't really have room, but will be living in a small place my father built a while ago for family get-togethers...I've still not had time to take the back off and inspect inside with all the holiday activities.

The picture is strong, although the selector and all the control pots are dirty...basically if you walk across the floor you might cause the picture to become fuzzy because the selector is very sensitive. I'll tackle it with DeOxit when I get time.

The picture doesn't fill the frame completely; it's squashed top to bottom except for the very top left corner, which is correct. The top right corner is always faded black, as you can see in the Jack Benny photo. When a circle comes on the screen, like in a logo, the shape is all off. I'm not really sure what to do about this, although a person on the audio side mentioned it might be a weak vertical output tube. The Vertical control just seems to be a stabilizer-type adjustment, it's not stretching the picture. I've not been inside yet to find any secondary controls for this.

I'd asked there but nobody responded; does anybody recognize this and can tell me the year it's from? Just curious more than anything; the radio says "stereo" but I can't really tell if the phono pickup is stereo or not, so I'm unsure what year I'm looking at. Thanks!

the shadows can prob be dialed out with the centering rings, they are on the back of the yoke and are used to center the picture. They are prob on a plastic base that has rotted and therefore not in the right position.

you can rotate them together or separately (looks like two thin rings with tabs that stick up..

the yoke may have slipped back as well, it should be firmly up against the bell of the tube.

becareful as the yoke has some pretty high voltages in it and can give you a nasty bite. Make sure is snug up against the bell, there should be a small screw clamp that can loosen up and move the yoke the snug it back. Note the yoke posistion will also cause the pic to be tilted, so best to check that as well anytime you move the yoke around.

the vert control on the top back of the set is the hold, there are two others mounted on the chassis that require removing the back or having long screwdrivers (plastic or fibreglass is best) for setting the height and linearity.

this is best done with a circle pattern. It will never be perfect. Those adj pots also tend to go bad so fiddling with them may result in breakage, just depends on if they are corroded or not.

also you should let the set warm up at least 15min before adj as there are parts in the set that change in value as it warms up.

Those old maggies B&W are pretty easy to work on, if its the vert chassis I am thinking of. they are mostly free of paper caps, but may have a couple in hard white ceramic tube. Those may be ok but may also go bad after some use. Also same with the power supply can caps, pretty sure it uses a doubler type power supply for B+ and those then to be hard on can caps.
