The radio works great, the tv just has vertical shrink (and a really dirty horiz hold control). The major problems this unit has are with the clock:

1. First many of those little flip-numbers were pushed out of position - I got them all straightened out and back where they should be. Except I'm missing 3 of them on the hour wheel (6s and 5s).

2. I see how the hour wheel is turned by the outer shaft, it appears the minute wheel should be turned by the inner shaft, but there is nothing to secure it to the shaft, it just floats freely on there. Am I missing a piece?

3. Notice the little metal piece that is sitting inbetween the two wheels on my desk in the pic. It does sit on the shaft inbetween the hour wheel and the minute wheel. It was all bent up, and I'm not sure what it does or if I even bent it back to the correct shape.

4. The motor is completely dead (it's visible in the 2nd pic), it's not one of those telechron units I usually see, any chance I'll even be able to find one of these?

Is the motor dead electrically? Does it at least test not open? If so drill a tiny hole in the gearcase in the position that will be vertical when the motor is installed in the set and inject some transmission fluid. I use an animal hypodermic bought at a farm and ranch store. If the gears aren't trashed the motor should come back. Seal the hole with a dab of silicone.

I have one of these and there was a tiny plastic gear that had crumbled beyond repair. I have a bunch of RCA factory manuals and keep meaning to look this bugger up and see if I can get a part number for that gear. If available seperate it would not at all surprise me if Moyers had one.

The motor came apart more than I thought it would. A little lubrication got it going. There is one cracked plastic gear, but I think I can repair it.

About the minute-wheel, I think I've figured out how it was supposed to turn. Look at the indentation from across the center of it in the pic. It lines up with a hole through that inner shaft (I couldn't get the hole to really come out in the pic) I think there have must have been a small rod that sat perpendicular through the shaft and fit right into that indentation, causing the wheel to turn with the shaft.

I got the vertical size fixed (just a few resistors drifting up in value). You have to shake the channel knob all the time to keep the picture in, so I'm going to have to take the tuner apart and clean the contacts in there on this set too.

The tuner is a weird one. It's not the drum-type, but rather wafer switches mounted on circuit boards that are sealed up in plastic. The switch on only one of the boards was exposed, But while poking around in the tuner I found the problem was actually mostly caused by a couple of bad solder joints on one of the boards in the tuner. The tv portion of this at least is working good now.

So I got the clock almost back together. I made that small piece I was missing that turns the minute wheel by raiding my wife's sewing kit for a needle just the right diameter, and cutting it to size.

That piece I didn't know what it was, just sort of holds the hour number tab in position, it is held up over the hour tab by a portion of the minute wheel which only sticks out until the zero, then it is released and the hour number changes. Without this little thing holding it in place, the hour number would change around the turn of the hour, but not necessarily exactly at 59-00 minutes. Because even though the wheels turn at a precise rate in comparison to each other, there's no guarantee exactly exactly when the tab with the hour number on it would decide to drop. To overcome this problem, the tab is actually ready to drop about 15min early, but is still held in place by that mysterious metal piece until the hour changes exactly.

I found one of the 3 hour number tabs I was missing inside the cabinet. Unless I can find the other two it won't display 6PM correctly, but at this point, compared to the condition it was in when I started with it, I'm happy it looks like it's going to work at all.

I need a few of these fine thread bolts on which I stripped the screw heads while getting this apart. And nowhere in Memphis can I find a well stocked hardware store. I'm looking through my big metal box of screws and stuff now to see if I have some. I wonder if you can order nuts and bolts online? It's getting so I'm going to have to order everything I need off the internet, it's one thing to have to order tubes and capacitors, but nuts and bolts? I haven't even been able to find any naval jelly or contact cleaner in this town either.
