Just spoke to Scotty today. He still has an active web site and answers the phone still selling his shrinking inventory of CRTs. He plans to fully retire at the end of the year wished him well. I really hope the museum and everyone involved in CRT rebuilding project quizes Scotty on everything they need to know about using his equipment before he drops off the radar screen. He seems open and pleasant as always to passing along critical information.

I guess the primary goal is to rebuild 15" color and maybe prewar B/W crts?
The time would be now to get info before he totally retires.

The early 1960s era RCA receiving tube price sheet always hinted at the special conundrum of the 15GP22. Listed as a "Colorama" (rebuilt only) CRT, the 15GP22 was in a high priced league of its own with a prohibitively high retail price.
I never heard of any shop having attempted to order one.

My 1960 SM Supply Company (local RCA distributor) catalog lists new 15GP22,
21AXP22A, and 21CYP22 all at $160 suggested retail. A pretty hefty sum of money in 1960. But apparently they were still available.

A while back, a member here mentioned a 1969 Allied Radio catalog that had the 15GP22 for $125, if I remember right.

I just looked in my Allied Radio 1969 catalog. 15GP22 38 pounds, no trade in for the bulb and $128.

For squirts and giggles, I will try to take a picture of the page tomorrow and post it. My main computer is re-booting and I can't scan right now. I also have other year Allied catalogs and will see what the price for the 15GP22 was over the years...

with no updates for active crt rebuilding, equipment kept as a display piece I guess.

If no attempts to even rebuild a b/w crt have occurred, why guess will be made in future when scotty can longer be contacted?

It is a shame that the rebuilding is in Ohio as if I lived near there I could offer to learn the skill and do it part time and seeing as I'm 20 I'd probably be able to keep at it for 30+ years. Then again I'm sure I'd get sick of it eventually....

That is true, but I still like the idea of doing cool stuff like that here and there on the side.

Compilcated processes like that which are mentally interesting/challenging tend to capture my immagination......That is probably the same reason why I started working on TVs a few years back and taught my self Zenith type cateract removal this summer.
