Hi All,
I've just acquired a 1964 Magnavox roundie stereo theatre. This set has a replacement Sylvania picture tube. The black plastic cap where the crt socket connects is broken. Remarkably, the set still produces a decent picture, although the covergence needs to be touched up, and it is showing PVA deteriation. Is there any way to fix the cap, without compromising the wiring to the CRT pins? Thanks for any help.

nice score, post pix when you can, not much knowledge of magnavox here, ive got 2 RCA roundie combos and a ctc16 plain set im putting together now since i got into this hobby again ,last year. Seems like we live fairly close to each other if you want to compare notes. I dont think youll have to hard a time with the tube socket, the guys on here will know which products work best, and just get the thing to not move around, good luck, Bruce

If there is not enough remaining pieces of the base to super glue it back together, then you should obtain a replacement base, and carefully unplug the origional base. Then make note which wire goes to which pin, and unsolder each wire pin combo to gently get the old base off. Then carefully solder thiner guage wire on to the end of each wire, and thread the thinner guage wires through the new base and then slide the base up to the tube and solder the pins. test that it works, and then glue the new base on.

Phill has a thread on a capehart/farnsworth set where he goes through this process in good detail.

You could also use silicone sealer (the "sensor-safe" kind at auto-parts stores is apparently the best to use) to reattach the base to the CRT if all or most of the plastic base is still there.

On this same set, the brightness and tint controls seem 'seized'. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, how did you correct it?

I use some deoxit like spray, let it set then work it back and forth slowly. followed up with some gun oil on the shaft.

Looks like the convergence is off, and some mild cateracting has occured.

That is a sweet piece of equipment....I'd be willing to kick half of the cinsoles in my room out to make room for one of those in that good of shape.

Looks like the blue lateral magnet needs some tweaking, but a general convergence proceedure probaly wouldn't be a bad idea.

Nice. The controls aren't even scuffed up. I like that cabinet, too. I always wanted a Maggie entertainment center with a roundie.
