I set this one up as a temporary daily-watcher while my G.E. 'ac' chassis gets some video repairs..and it's good a really nice picture.(my camera does it zero justice)

It's actually a XAM brand set, solid state Made in Japan...very heavy metal cabinet &built well overall...Plus the UHF tuner is way neat.

Anyone have late 70s Toshiba sets?

I once had a 70's Sears TV that was built by Toshiba. The controls looked very similar to yours. It was a very solid, well built set and was a great performer.

I have a 79 Sears 13 incher; sure wish somebody would get it from me.

My high school sweetheart's father had a Teknika which looked a lot like this XAM. I'd assumed it might be a US-built W-G, but maybe not? I wasn't on good enough terms with him to go poking around the back of his TV! (as for his daughter, well....)

Who was the marketing genius to come up with a name like XAM? Cheap looking font they used, too.

I've got a 77 "Coronado" that is a Toshiba.

Good call on the Coronado's...there was one in a thrift shop I passed up that looked Japanese too. Also, "Broadmoor" (sp?) was a similar set.

The CRT is a strange number which I cannot recall offhand, but i'm 99% sure it's a delta-gun arrangement due to the convergence assembly.

This one had some trouble with the vertical linearity (at the top) but some adjustment and a 330Ω resistor near the b+ adjustment fixed that. The B line was about 12v down from the posted value inside the set ... works like a charm now!

I think Toshiba made TV's for most of the chain stores. Years ago, I had a 19" tube-type Penncrest color TV that was built by Toshiba. The chassis used modular PC board construction, like the later solid state sets.

This one's modular too, just like the 13" XAM/Toshiba I've got from 1976.

Judging by the condition of the tube and the interior of the set, this one's seen heavy use...pretty good track record

It was a store called E. J. Korvette, if I remember right, or it might have been S. S. Kresge (the company that later opened the K-mart stores). In 1974, my brother bought a basic stereo system and a multi-band radio that were both XAM brand.

He's right Korvettes had the XAM brand, I had a few of the $69. B&W sets with tubes 12"ers and they looked a lot like the GE's of the same size. 12" B&W with all the knobs on the bottom. They were store specials.

Great store I use to get all my records there as a kid, and they had a very well stocked photographic department complete with chemicals, enlargers, paper, film, kid memory moment..................................

Yep, EJ Korvette's...my older family members have fond memories of their stores, and yes I've heard about the vast record depts. from them!

i'm still trying to figure out if this is an inline gun or not....i doubt it based on those convergence coils and pots...i'm gonna open it and get the crt#

Toshiba made some oddball Inline CRTs in the mid 70s that required a complex convergence circuit just like a delta CRT

They had phosphor stripes on the screen instead of dots though.

I had an early 90's 19" Toshiba table model that had an RCA CRT and a Goldstar chassis. FWIW.

Hi Kiwick. Interesting fact about these crt's. Judging from the phosphor arrangement and the convergence assembly, this is most likely a delta configuration. I recently changed out tv's for my 72 Z 19CC19 which runs beautifully.

And yes, i had a couple of early 90s Toshibas...they seemed fine except for lots of small value capacitors in the vertical giving out causing foldover.
