So, a good friend of mine calls and asks me if I'm going to be home this morning, I told him sure, I'll be home. He said he had to stop at work for a couple minutes and was going by my house, so he'd stop and say, "Howdy."

I haven't seen him in a while, he's always on the road. It would be great to see him :thmbsp:

He comes to the door and says, "I got something for you in the truck..."

The guy that had this, had already reduced it into boxes with no cabinet. :tears:

From the tube layout I can tell you that it was an early to mid 1950's Philco split-chassis black and white TV set. They are great TVs to learn repair on as they will often work good with only the capacitors replaced (as mine did).
More photos may tell me and others more about your set, that we could then tell you.

Doh! Tom beat me to it ;)

This the closest I've come to a suspect, but I only have an AM reciever. The knobs and picture tube surround (trim) all match as does the 3 speed changer. Also I have only one 10-1/2" oval speaker, if that means anything.

Perhaps the AM tuner was placed between the two TV chassis and the phono was mounted in the top of the cabinet.

Part of me wonders if as few tubes as allocated to tuner could actually function as an AM radio with acceptable performance.

Should be similar to a typical 5 tube radio, the tv chassis provides DC power and audio output, so 2 tubes are not needed for those functions.

This girl is remarkably complete. all the wiring is intact, the knobs look unused except the channel selector, the player is without a scratch as is the radio dial glass. Someone took really good care of this until very recently, when the cabinet disappeared...:(

A couple of the multi caps are newer than the rest, the CRT is an RCA 17BP4A, which I believe replaced the Philco tube that I read didn't last long. I get the impression that the flyback cicuit was being worked on, asa the cover for the front electronics is missing and the flyback housing cover is loose and unscrewed. There's a newer Dumont 6SN7GTB in circuit, too.

Looks like maybe a 51-T18XX code 122...closest thing I can find so far.

It is possible that whoever your friend got it from was sitll trying to care for it, and sent the cabinet to be refinished only to never get it back from the refinisher.

My 1952 split chassis still displays a watchable though slightly dim picture with its original CRT (which I had to replace the bakelite base on because some shaved ape smashed it clean off). I should really test that tube in my set the next chance I get.

That is exactly what happened to my one CT-100. The refinisher went out of business about a month after he got my cabinet, and I never saw it again. Ended up selling the rest in parts :(

If that happened to me I'd get the names of the employees and show up at each of their doors demanding that they track down the cabbinet or pay for a replacement. With how much the cabinets on those cost you can bet they would get off their buts and find it.
And if they will do neither I'd sue them. No one will get off scott free after pulling or trying to pull such a stunt on me! And when you come accross as someone who one does not want to hoodwink people usually won't try.

Funny, I emailed an old friend and asked him he could use any of the parts, and this an excerpt from the email I sent, "The knobs look next to new except the channel selector, I can't get over the thoughts of a perfect console in grannies house being gutted for a liquor cabinet at her grandsons apartment!" :sigh:
