any idea of the build quality of that? its pretty close, but I really dont need it.

I have an '84 model just like that one, except mine is in a woodgrain plastic case. Mine uses a 9-181 signal module, a 9-186 HV/horizontal sweep module, and a 13" inline tri-focus CRT, like what was used in the earlier 9-160 sets. These sets had a nice picture when working right; but, can be a PITA to troubleshoot, especially if they are dead. I've had those 9-186 sweep modules fail and I couldn't find anything wrong with them. Only a new module would restore the TV back to operation. And, I've seen these sets where the sweep module would fail and take out the signal module. It finally got to the point where I would condemn one of these sets unless it was an obvious problem that could easily be fixed. If the set was a "dog" and the owner insisted on having it fixed, I'd give them an estimate for both boards. Still, that wasn't a guarantee because I've gotten bad boards straight out of the box.

It is also possible that this set uses the older 9-160 module, as these were made from around '79 to '83 and Zenith liked to use the same cabinet design through many chassis variations. I actually think that cabinet style appeared in the late '70's with the chromacolor II chassis. The only difference was the knobs used.

If this set were local, I might pick it up if it were under $5. The CCII 13" sets were the best (and heaviest), the 9-160 sets were OK, and the 9-181 sets were my least favorite.

sounds like something I can live without..

I have a 13" Zenith from about 1980 and the picture was one of the brightest I've ever seen. Hard to look at up close in the dark! Mine has issues-free if anybody wanted it.
