Hey
In July of 2006, I took to the attic of the garage and carefully stored a bunch of electronic gear. I was headed for college in another place and my family didn't want the clutter just left behind in the house .
So I decided to go up there yesterday. It was like a time capsule! 5 years on, it smelt the same, looked the same. FYI this is not a climate-controlled environment. It stays dry but gets damp in summer.
The TVs: 1986 MGA 13" OSD/remote ... came up with raster(snow)... next, 1985 Quasar color 12" 'with the remote that is a smalled-down tv' Came up and I use it in the shed with a Zenith dtv box to great satisfaction. It was my grandma's kitchen tv (it's the white version) but sadly the cool remote control is useless with the dtv transition mostly.
and last, a USA made set: an early 70s Sylvania 25" metal cabinet SS... all discrete, built like a tank, and used to work fine (curb find) one day when watching it, there was a loud pop and smoke and then it shut down. Looks like the entire PSU section cooked. IT will be fixed though since it has a strong Sylvania branded delta gun crt.
I like how these units still mostly function after sitting for a while.
