Kinda hard to argue w/"Jonny Quest"...For a cartoon show, it was pretty good...Obviously, SOMEBODY put some effort into it...

I think Lost In Space was good but I pretty much think most every big musical production is good. I think it would be much easier and maybe as or more entertaining to mention theme songs that we think kinda su--, etc. Currently, I have seen Perry Mason's show Ironside. It bores me but I checked it out cause my granny told me to. I think the theme song su--- but apparently the draw to Perry was strong enough to alow things like the intro music tonot matter.

I like Perry Mason, but so far I've only been able to get ahold of the first 5 seasons. I never really could get into Ironside either. The Lost in Space theme is a favorite of mine. One time I had the theme song for Mr. Ed stuck in my head for days. A horse is a horse...

I think Perry Mason is the epitome of a very cool and great man. I have been very impressed with that show. It was hilarious to imagine what Howard Stern said about Raymond Burr in real life. It is wellknown in Hollywood that inreal life Raymond behaved as a man who clearly like other men as much as anybody possibly can. His personalityis said to rival Liberace in being effeminate. I would have NEVER guessed that . Perry seems as manly as any man could ever be.
I think the theme song for Perry Mason is fabulous... simply fabulous... oh my :) (but seriously I think that music is great)

I've got a clean recording of Lost In Space, too.

I used to collect 16mm TV shows. It helped to work in TV at the time. I had several hundred episodes of shows for about 30 years... Sold most of them in 1999.

Back to Jonny Quest... I have a set of Hanna-Barbera CD's, and have the uncut long version of the JQ theme... without the sound effects. It's my favorite of everything on the CD set.

I agree,the "Lost in Space" theme is great! (I prefer the earlier version)
It features Paul Tanner on his Electro-Theremin.
Tanner also played this instrument on the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations" and "My Favorite Martian".

What about the Milton the Monster theme song?

If we're talking about cartoon theme songs,most of the early Hanna Barbera shows had pretty catchy themes.

Top Cat had a great opening theme featuring the Randy Van Horne singers and the background music that was specifically composed for the show was top flight and very jazzy,very shearing-esque.

They really went all out on that show,it had a superb voice cast,music and writing.

Theres one episode (The Golden Fleecing) from 1962 where Benny the Ball comes into some dough and Top Cat and the gang go out on the town to celebrate at a night club and Benny Flips for the singer Miss Honeydew Melon who attempts to fleece him of all his money.
Even though shes a cat,she behaves very much like her human counterparts!

Its very obvious,these cartoons were indeed aimed at adults.

I believe her singing voice was done by Jackie Ward,who was also Cindy Bears singing voice in "Hey there,its Yogi Bear" but cant find any documentation of it.

Sadly the Hanna Barbera stuff quickly went downhill after the early '60's.

Regarding television themes in general,nearly everything in the 1950's and 1960's had catchy themes and great music.

Prolly the best thing outta Tenna... The Cattanooga Cats! I am gonna try to get link or two for thier songs. Very adult but for kids. I just recently discovered the series on youtube. Not sure bout the writing in the shows but the music is big time productons with the beach boys sometimes with trippy videos

Derek Meddings created some very impressive special effects considering the budget they had to work with.
He later worked on some of the James Bond films and Superman movies.

Barry Grays orchestral scores are incredible!
