It's always surprised me that earlier sets can reach such high prices,but the only 50's sets that are really "high dollar" are Predictas when they have such cool styling,and larger screens to make watching them easier.

I guess I shouldnt complain since they are affordable,it's more of a surprise that the modernistic designs of the late 50's and early 60's sets arent as appreciated as the earlier more stodgy ones.

But there are thousands of Predictas around and only about 10 of these Temples known to exist, and probably not many in this condition either.

I was watching that one. I guess there's a few pretty serious TV collectors around the country.

Wow,I had no idea it was that rare!
I didn't read the description this morning,I had just glanced at it's photo and the sale price and was shocked since most vintage tvs don't bring much money and the set was rather plain looking.
I realize everyone has different tastes,now that I realize it's rarity the price makes more sense.

So this is probably one of the rarest televisions then?

Among Postwar Sets the Farnsworth GV260, the Viewtone and the Dumont RA-102 Clifton are among the Rarest. Also Kit TVs such as Transvision and Espey demand high prices. Some early postwar projection sets have gone for over $1500. At one time the Scott projection set was up there but I got one for $600. I think there are about 15 Temples out there. I counted 12 at one time and there have been at least 3 new ones in the last year. I think a Teleavia sold from a US collector would bring more then ones located in Europe. There are a lot of collectors who only want one vintage TV and are willing to spend a good sum of $(s) to get the one they want. They also may have been trading up for years.

What about the Kuba Komets? I've only seen one in person and it was expensive.

I once sold an N.R.I. student built trainer kit from the late 40s for $800 sight unseen! I couldn't believe it as the thing was rescued from the curb waiting on the garbage man. Women can be VERY dangerous when it comes to determining what is indeed trash and what might be treasure. In that case an old repairman had died and the loving wife had ejected his whole life, the tools that fed and clothed her and their children, into oblivion as if it had no meaning OR value. I'm sure glad she did, but it was kind of sad going through this mans entire career beginning with training at N.R.I. and ending when his age along with solid state and later digital throw away crap made a dinosaur of the TV and radio repairman. I still have all of his correspondence material from N.R.I. in nice leather binders. Great information!

Yes,I agree,it is indeed sad that so many personal items which to any caring person would usually have attached sentimental value,could be so uncaringly tossed out like yesterday's melon rinds...at least you were there to rescue them.

I've actually seen family albums and slides for sale at swap meets and estates because nobody wanted Grandma and Grandpas old stuff.

It's rather sad.

A Teleavia type P111 sold for 2400 GB approx $3,888 at the Michael Bennett-Levy auction Sept 2009. The last one listed on eBay didn't hit the reserve at $800. The eBay one was missing some trim etc.
