does anyone know the best way to look or an idea on how to flush out these roundy televisions that may be tucked away in basements or garages,run ads, how do all you guys find them?:scratch2:

We could tell you, but then we'd hafta KILL you...Seriously, a lot of its luck, mixed in w/a little smarts. Start hitting the "Yard Sales/Estate Sales", especially in the older/wealthier parts of town. Put up flyers in a few local supermarkets. If there are any older TV/radio repair shops left around yr town, put the word out w/them. If yr town has an annual "Spring Cleaning" day, you might drive around the night before & do a little "Freestyling" picking. If there is an amateur radio club locally, you might even make inquiries there. If yr parents/grandparents are still around, maybe ask them to see if any of THEIR friends/relations might have one they'd like to get gone... Sometimes half the fun of this is in the chase...And you never know what OTHER goodies you might "scare" up, along w/maybe making a new friend or 2.

yes that spring clean up is a good idea ill look into that in the spring. ill tell you i have found all kinds of stuff from old tube radios to really old victrolas even ones that wind up, but no color tvs to be had...

Another thing-If there are any other "Pack Rats" around, spread the word w/them. Not everybody is interested in OUR little particular brand of madness, you never know when the guy who's into old magazines or books saw one lurking in the back of the last Rumpus Room he cleaned out. Might even sweeten the deal a little w/a $10-20 finder's fee...

And if you see a yard sale, ask if they have any old radios or TV's. They might be in the basement or wherever and too heavy for them to drag out. Many "treasures" have been found that way. "Old TV's in wooden cabinets."

well i know someone that does estate auctions and i forgot all about it so i called him and he tells me that he comes across roundy tvs all the time but he dont take them because he cant sell them or get rid of them if they didnt sell so he now has my number and he will call me when hes at the next estate clean out that has one. that to me is good news who knows what he may throw at me,lol...

Ive found alot of things on craigslist, these things are out there.... I really miss the days when i used to borrow my mothers station wagon in the 70s and80s when people were throwing these things away en masse. Eventually she took the keys away because the attic and basement were getting full.

They're a LITTLE harder to come by out here in The Toolies, 'cause they were EXPENSIVE, & in the late '50s-mid '60s money was TIGHT in NE Tenn, but they ARE out there...I'll wager that after you find yr 1st one, the 2nd & 3rd will find YOU.. That has a funny way of happening.

CTC-5 at an antique mall
CTC-11 at an indoor flea market
CTC-12 on ebay
CTC-15 on the curb
CTC-15 at the dump
Zenith 25MC30 in the newspaper classifieds
Zenith 25MC33 in a used furniture store
Admiral console at the dump
Admiral table model at the auction

Notice that there is no big "trend", I didn't find them all at one place. I don't have all of these sets anymore; these were found over a period of about 20 years.

Craigslist/Ebay makes the job a lot easier. The trouble with putting feelers out is that 99% of the people you talk will think you are describing a Sanyo from 1989, so you will get endless calls to drive an hour away only to find some dusty set from the 80s. There is no real foolproof way to describe them to somebody. Even a photo of one won't work. I've sent a picture to some thrift stores and still I get calls because somebody dropped off a 10-year old Toshiba. Don't fret, though. Just have patience and keep your eyes open.

Oh, I dunno... Mebbe I've been doin' it awhile...(grin) Yard Sale season will start here in another 6-8 weeks or so, there's one or 2 I'd like to try to go to-the US 27 Yard Sale, which goes thru the entire "Thickness" of Tennessee, from Georgia to Kentucky... Lotsa junque, but lotsa treasures, too.. There's also this HUGE Flea Market over near New Tazewell, TN every Saturday that me 'n' the wife wanna hit... She may be a Damyankee, but she's REALLY got into these Yard Sales, Estate Auctions & Flea Markets like a a tried 'n'-true Redneck....Hehehehehe..

well thing is this would not be my first set i have seen dozens over the years but just never picked them up, well hope your right first one then the others find me,lol,lol....

You could always go hang out at the local senior center. You're on the right track talking with the estate buyers. It's all about relationships. :yes: And then the stuff will usually surface when you least expect it. People paid a lot of money for these things and became emotionally attached to them. They're out there, but we could be dealing with the tail end of an opportunity soon. 20 years from now they will be about impossible to find in their original hiding places.

First a friend of mine (Mark) let me know about a CTC-9 at Goodwill in Kenosha, then I bought a CTC-7 from a fellow VK'er, then I found a CTC-4 on Craigslist. I also found a VT-71 at an estate sale, but that's round B&W. It takes a lot of searching and waiting, this all happened over the course of 2 years...

well ill wait and keep watching im sure things will surface as it had in the past but never picked anything up.
