Someone sent me pictures of their old set wanting information but I've never seen this one before.
The set is an RCA, is the cabinet factory or custom?

View Full Version : Factory or Frankenset? Eric H 01-11-2011, 05:21 PM Someone sent me pictures of their old set wanting information but I've never seen this one before. The set is an RCA, is the cabinet factory or custom? radiotvnut 01-11-2011, 05:30 PM IDK; but, I'd guess it's not original. To me, it looks like someone took a late '20 radio cabinet and modified it for this TV. Chad Hauris 01-11-2011, 06:02 PM I seem to remember seeing cabinet models like this in an RCA catalog so I think it is factory...it seems to fit in very well. However, I have never seen one of this style of cabinet in person. The chassis looks like a CTC-30. heathkit tv 01-11-2011, 06:47 PM To each their own but that looks like Model T with a set of mag wheels...an incongruous combination. Cruiseomatic 01-11-2011, 08:48 PM If someone was going for a wood furniture decor it looks nice. But to each their own. bgadow 01-11-2011, 10:17 PM Radiola meets XL-100! If a conversion, it was very well done. andy 01-12-2011, 10:55 AM ... RobtWB 01-12-2011, 12:16 PM hinges and door pulls and the cabinet itself have a modern look to them but the base looks old to me - even the finish looks not to match top looks very well done if it is a conversion kx250rider 01-12-2011, 12:43 PM I'd say it's a furniture company model. Ethan Allen sold TV sets with various GE and RCA chassis. That's my guess. Charles freakaftr8 01-12-2011, 01:31 PM Thats way too clean of an installation to be a frankenset. I too remember somewhere I have seen a set like this too. freakaftr8 01-12-2011, 02:48 PM BTW, does that set have electronic tuning? "wheres the knobs" lol Chad Hauris 01-12-2011, 09:52 PM BTW, does that set have electronic tuning? "wheres the knobs" lol The tuning knobs are behind the control door and there is a vertical lighted display for channel numbers. It is a conventional nuvistor type tuner. The bar is a power tuning switch. RCAkid 01-14-2011, 10:39 AM I can almost guarantee that chassis is a CTC-21. I would LOVE to get hold of that set. If they are willing to part with it, I would get shipping arranged. Please PM me!!!!!! freakaftr8 01-14-2011, 03:28 PM The tuning knobs are behind the control door and there is a vertical lighted display for channel numbers. It is a conventional nuvistor type tuner. The bar is a power tuning switch. Thats friggin cool! |
