I ran across this today at an antique place and didn't have time to pull it out and get the model number. They are, as expected, asking way too much - but thought I might go back after the holidays and try an offer. I may see if they will let me test the CRT... any general advice on this set?

I like those early Philco sets. Not bad to work on and decent performers, from what I've seen. I can't decide what size crt that is?

Shame about the Heathkit, it would have been a rare one.

Its a 12 inch set Bryan...i have one.

It's a 12" from 1950, 50-T-140*. Think maybe it's an -04, but I'm not positive.

Indeed it is a 50T-1404. I'm restoring one for somebody right now.

Check the run number. It's critical. Different runs have different power supplies. The two (that I know of) runs are both covered in SAMS. Ignore the picture on the print.

This one is in a different cabinet; but, the control layout is the same as my 12" '50 Philco. If I were to pay any serious money for this set, I'd insist on checking the CRT or there would be no deal. If you can get it for under $50, you might could afford to take a chance; but, I'd want to know the condition of the CRT if it was any higher. These old round B&W CRT's are not getting any easier, or cheaper, to find. On an impulse, I gave $125 for a '49 Admiral combo because round CRT sets almost never show up around here. Guess what? The CRT had an open filament.

Antique Malls usually ask $50 for one knob, I'll guess they want $200+ for that set?

$125 would be a good deal if the CRT is OK.

Well, you guys will roll on the shop floor, but the original price was $300 and they marked it down for the holiday to $275. As I said, I will go back after the hollidays and make an offer closer to $75 - if I can test the CRT.

It is a Philco 50T-1404 - did find that out from the shop!
