just picked up a 19 inch rca xl100 from mid 1975.this set has a beautiful picture with original paperwork and no broken antennas!this will sit on top of my console.back in those days,i was so gungho about sylvanias.i never realized how good these rca sets were.the picture on both these sets are stunning.i would put these up against any crt set.will post pics asap!

I agree, I have always loved RCA. I have several Sylvania color sets and they work very well, they may be the closest in picture quality but I still think RCA is a tad better.

Let me guess, CTC71 chassis with the MA series plug in modules. Those sets had a very nice picture and I'd love to find one again. Those old solid state RCA, Zenith, and Sylvania sets of the '70's will usually beat the picture quality of a more modern CRT set.

havent taken the back off yet.brought it home and plugged her in.picture was outstanding for a set that was in storage for over 24 years.this has xl100 paperwork attached to the back.a little tweaking on the convergence is in order and to clean/lube controls.the 70s produced some fine,fine electronics.just think-rca xl100s and early colortraks,zenith chromacolors,sylvania gt matics,admiral solar color,philco ford,magnavox videomatic sets.these were really great sets with sharp picture tubes and fun to work with.i miss those days.

It probably looks very similar to my 1974. I believe the appearance of the speakers is a little different.

yes it does still have the shipping block in it.after some tweaking of the convergence and the pin amp,it really looks sharp!the kine bias is all the way down,the screens are turned down and the guns are turned off!i dont care for a lot of contrast.bright,sharp picture that looks better than any 80s or 90s crt set.we have several lcd,dlp and plasma sets in the house and this little rca can hold its own.my son,(who just bought a samsung 40 inch lcd,led backlit set),looked at it and said:"damn dad.you guys had some good stuff back than.that looks as good as my samsung!"

Here is a February 1978 manufactured set I piced up at an estate sale. Model FB 443M. I don't remember the chassis off hand, and a you can see the set is buried in the utility room and I am too lazy to give it a look right now.
The set produces a really nice picture, almost as good as the CCII set I have.
Maybe at the start of the new year I can get around to getting some sets tweaked and displayed properly.

I used to have a set just like this one and it had a very good picture. Mine was a '77 model and used a CTC8x chassis, which was a flat modular chassis that replaced the upright chassis in around '77. Due to space limitations, I ended up donating my set to the SA. Who knows what happened to it after that.

I really wanted my 1977 ctc-89 to live, but the CRT was very weak. dead green gun.

The RCA colortrak's from about '79-'83 are some of my favorites of all time. They usually make a nice picture when working, and they're remote sets so they are very practical.

i had the same colortrak 19 inch in both incarnations.the knob tuner and digital.very good pictures on both.loaned the digital to my ex brother in law when he had a broken leg.never got it back.that was back in 1989.when i went to get it,he always had an excuse.he also told me it was the best set he ever saw.i think 1979 was the last good year for tv.when the delta gun went wayside,tv was done for me.although the early inline sylvanias were marvel to behold,its been downhill since.

I have one of those last 19" delta gun colortrak's from '79. It has a digital keypad with a standard knob power/volume control. It worked when I got it. Then, a resistor opened up on the vertical module. Now, it works until it gets hot. Then, I get a blank raster and a bunch of noise out of the speaker. The CRT was replaced, under warranty, with an RCA Hi-Lite in 1980. When I first got the set, I had to give it a little boost; but, it came back strong.

I found one of these when I was in high school, set out for the trash at a curbside. We were walking to the town park from school for physics class to demonstrate physics properties with the swings and merry-go-rounds. I picked this set up from the curb and carried it about 1/2 mile to the park! and then began to carry it back. Luckily the lady who took janitorial supplies to the schools in the district drove by and gave me a lift back to the school.
The set worked fine and my parents used it in their bedroom for a long while. I'm sure its still at their house somewhere.

Do the crts ever die on these sets? I have seen them with what looks like a million hours and the crt still tested new.

Those late '70's delta gun RCA tubes tended to not be that great. My family had a '77 19" RCA colortrak that got a new tube in '83. I have a '79 colortrak that got a new tube, under warranty, in '80. And, I've seen many late '70's RCA consoles that had weak and/or shorted CRT's that were too far gone to rejuvenate. The older RCA tubes, up until the mid '70's, seemed to hold up better and would usually take a hit and keep going when they became weak.

your right about those crts.the colortrak and later delta guns seemed to last about as long as those black matrix sylvanias.the best crts were made in the early 70s as far as 25v s were concerned.

On those late '70's RCA's with weak CRT's, I'd try to swap them out with Zenith chromacolor tubes if I had one on hand from a junk set. I rarely ever run into a bad Zenith delta gun tube.

only seen one zenith with a bad crt.it was weak,but still delivered a good picture.the red was a little smeared,but still looked better than most other crts.the zenith in a rca is a great swap.that will really make that set tops.
